Gwendolyn S. Corbett was born on February 1st, 1968 in Manilla Hospital in the Philippines. She grew up in various parts of the Philippines from 1968-1974 as her parents were Lutheran Missionaries. From kindergarten through first grade, she attended an international school with students from all over the world. The sights, smells, sounds, culture and people of the Philippine Islands formed many of her first unforgettable impressions on earth. While living on these beautiful islands, she remembers the extreme poverty and the many people who suffered. In 1974, Gwendolyn's parents relocated to Logan, Ohio, Hocking County, rural Appalachia. Her dad grew up in this area known for its poverty. Her dad and mom grew up poor and upon arriving to U.S. after being missionaries, they didn't have a lot of money, so they settled into a dilapidated farmhouse on thirty-six acres of land. Initially there was no running water, an outhouse and no electricity. The author remembers her mom boiling water on the stove and then putting it into a free standing tub for bathing. A coal burning furnace heated the home. With little means, Gwendolyn's parents slowly remodeled this ram- shackled farmhouse. They grew their own vegetables and fruit and had farm livestock. While in Hocking County, she attended two 4-room school houses, Marion Township school and St. John Catholic School. From 8th grade through her senior year in high school, Gwendolyn attended Lancaster High School (Lancaster, Ohio). Then, from 1986-1993, she attended Capital University (1 year) and The Ohio State University. In 1993, she graduated from OSU, The College of Engineering, School of Architecture, Department of Landscape Architecture with high honors, accolades and achievements. The author has a very diverse background in employment from blue collar to white collar jobs, so she has a deep compassion and understanding of people in various fields. She co-designed two homes with her husband, Mike. The first home they designed they built as well. Her contribution to building was drywall, spackling, siding and painting the interior/exterior. Since 1993, Gwendolyn has been in the lodging business in the Hocking Hills region, a well-known natural tourist attraction. Despite her multi-faceted employment background, Gwendolyn considers her most significant achievement and role to be that of a fully fledged and hands-on mother for the last 21 years of her two grown boys who she treasures with all of her heart and soul. In addition to being a writer, Gwendolyn is also a singer, songwriter, and alternative healer. Her musical background includes creating children's and Irish/Celtic CDs, both A cappella CDs, as well as being in a rock band, choirs, duets and more. In 2018, she began to write the lyrics to songs after hearing beautiful instrumentals. Having suffered with health issues since youth, Gwendolyn spontaneously became an alternative healer, as she found ways to mitigate chronic health issues naturally. In addition to her first book, "The Light at the End of the Covid-19 tunnel," she has written a handful of children's books (beginning in 2018), which she is currently working on bringing to life with various graphic illustrators. With Gwendolyn's early exposure to poverty in both the Philippines and rural Appalachia, her mission is to write books and give some of the proceeds to help children in poverty in various capacities around the world.
