I write because stories make the world go round — and because they insist on visiting me. I’m Fábio M. Barreto, a speculative fiction author, literary translator, and storyteller by calling and profession. I’ve been a journalist, an international correspondent in Hollywood, a speechwriter for ministers, and a screenwriter. Today, I continue driven by the same passion: turning ideas into narrative — whether in a short story, a speech, or an entire novel. My debut novel, Filhos do Fim do Mundo (When It Ends), won the Argos Prize for Best Novel and captivated thousands of readers. In 2018, I won the Argos Prize for Best Short Story with A Última Balada de Bernardo (The Last Ballad of Bernardo). My most recent book, Snowglobe, won the LeBlanc Prize, solidifying my path in Brazilian speculative fiction. I have also translated works by Neil Gaiman (Neverwhere), George R.R. Martin (Hunter's Run), and dozens of Netflix films and series. Today, I teach creative writing and screenwriting to authors who, like me, believe in the power of good stories. And when I’m not writing, I’m probably at an archery range, recurve bow in hand — because storytelling also demands focus, precision, and rhythm. Or chasing my kids, after all, children will be children. :) Want to know me better? Look me up on Instagram: @fabio.m.barreto
