NOTE: Okita enjoys engaging with book clubs! If in the Chicago area, he may be able to join in person. If national or intl, he can zoom with you! Google his name to find his website guestbook. Okita's memoir in development is titled THE INVENTION OF FIREFLIES: A memoir of the magical & the monstrous. The author is excited about writing a memoir after writing novels for some years. Life events in the book include his appearance on a corn flakes box as a chef, growing up near a serial killer, and training to be a professional cuddler. Dwight Okita was born and raised in Chicago. He has written poetry, plays and now focuses on novels. The author's debut novel, THE PROSPECT OF MY ARRIVAL, was a finalist in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Awards and is soft sci-fi. He is represented by Affirmative Entertainment in LA. THE HOPE STORE, the author's second novel, is about the first store in the world to sell hope over the counter...and a suicidal woman who goes undercover to expose the store as a scam. Until something wonderful happens. The author is recording this as an audiobook. Okita poetry book, CROSSING WITH THE LIGHT, was published by Tia Chucha Press. It will sadly soon be out of print. He collaborated on a poetry video of the same name which attracted media attention. His poems have appeared in THE NORTON INTRODUCTION TO LITERATURE and other anthologies. He is 3rd generation Japanese American and an openly gay man. He appeared in the documentary "Out and Proud in Chicago" available on Amazon. Okita also has written personal essays for WBEZ Radio, and read his poetry on Ira Glass' radio show, "This American Life." Okita continues to live in Chicago where he drinks too much coffee and is grateful for his diverse circle of friends and colleagues. * * * Early Reviews for THE HOPE STORE "Set in a Chicago of the future, the story opens with Jada Upshaw, an amazing, multidimensional character....I highly recommend The Hope Store. I found it cerebral, sexy, and thought-provoking, as all Okita’s work is." -- Connie J. Jasperson, Best in Fantasy blog "Finally, the characters themselves spring to life in this very exciting story. Jada, Luke, Kazu, and even Blair Matters (the journalist) are living, breathing people. They take you by the hand and pull you into their tiny, hopeful world." -- Alison DeLuca, Girl Who Reads blog
