Born in Manchester UK in 1959. After a conventional start, David became a lawyer in London. But not for long. His free spiritedness could not be contained behind a desk so he abandoned his career in law for a stint of courier work, delivering parcels by van throughout the London area. By 1990 the calling to escape England had become too loud to ignore. He packed his bags for Madrid, Spain, where he spent 7 years learning Spanish and teaching English. This experience led him to observe at first hand just how much learners struggle to learn anything, especially when the teaching methods are questionable if not useless. After returning to the UK in 1997 he became a freelance teacher of the card game bridge, a lifelong passion he had cultivated from childhood. After being offered funding to take a simplified format of the game around the country for trial use in schools, he was further exposed to the now global educational model he feels is letting the world down badly. He was also reminded of how traumatic school can be for so many (including himself). He is now determined to put that right in his own way.
