Daniel Friedman is a practicing pediatrician based in Floral Park, New York, with a B.A. in History from Stony Brook University and an M.D. from St. George’s University School of Medicine. In addition to his medical practice, he serves as an assistant clinical professor at the Northwell-Hofstra University Medical School, where he mentors future healthcare professionals. While Daniel’s professional focus is in medicine, he has also gained recognition for his enthusiasm for Sherlock Holmes. An internationally respected scholar in the field, Daniel has made significant contributions to the study of Arthur Conan Doyle’s works. His research has uncovered fascinating connections between Doyle’s stories and other literary classics, such as The Scarlet Letter’s influence on A Study in Scarlet and Robert Louis Stevenson’s impact on The Sign of the Four. He also identified the first Sherlockian and documented the earliest known court case to use Doyle’s investigative methods. His work has been featured in prominent publications like The Baker Street Journal, Canadian Holmes, and The Serpentine Muse, and he has co-authored books like Doyle’s World: Lost and Found and The Strange Case of Dr. Doyle. In 2024, he was honored to be named a Baker Street Irregular. Daniel has also been the recipient of several awards for his writing, including the Carole Dukes Montpellier Award. Daniel has also worked with internationally acclaimed Egyptologist Robert Brier, publishing articles in KMT Magazine, further expanding his range of scholarly interests. Daniel’s expertise has led to appearances on television, radio, and podcasts, where he shares his knowledge of Sherlock Holmes and Jack the Ripper with a wider audience. He delivered the keynote address at the 2023 annual meeting of The Norwegian Explorers of Minnesota and enjoys connecting with fellow fans and scholars through these platforms. Outside of his academic pursuits, Daniel is an avid comic book collector and a regular contributor to Alter Ego, a magazine edited by Roy Thomas. He is also a talented musician, playing bass guitar, guitar, and lead vocals with the Friedman Brothers Band. Daniel lives in Miller Place, Long Island, with his wife Elena and their three children, Amanda, David, and Andrew, finding balance between his work, hobbies, and family life.
