I was born in Houston and raised in Arizona. I went to undergraduate school at Arizona State and law school at the University of Houston. I then spent four years in the Marine Corps. They called me 'Captain Bill.' After the Marine Corps, I became a divorce attorney. My focus was on having my clients heal their relationship, one human being to another. As a result, 15 % of my clients never divorced and the ones who did were able to part as friends. I learned a lot about what creates and destroys love. In 1985, I closed my law practice and put all my focus on showing people how to heal relationships and have their lives work. Since then, I have led over 2,000 workshops and have worked with thousands of people. My first book, How To Heal A Painful Relationship, was featured on Oprah and became a national best seller.
