Hello again . . . it's time for an update! I am overwhelmed with how this story has resonated with so many readers. I hear from people about their story and how they hope to write it. I learn of their family's immigration, Depression stories, tragedies and triumphs. I think a good book is like a chain letter--- we pass it on because we are quite certain the recipient will appreciate the read. With that in mind, I am taking 5 books with me on my upcoming trip to Norway. I've put a note in the front cover of each book in hopes that the reader will respond. Many hotels/ships have bookshelves that say "take one leave one" so that's where I'll be putting a book. Here's what the inside cover says: "Book # ________ Hello, dear reader. I’m so glad you picked me up. I’m a book called What We Leave Behind, and I have a lot to tell you. My author has left five books behind on her February 2024 trip to Norway. She would like to follow the journey of each of these books. Please help her! I’m a historical fiction novel, but it’s a true story based on the author’s family’s experience. Her grandparents sent 3 of their daughters back to Norway in 1932 knowing they would return to North Dakota after two years. Alas, this journey did not materialize, and the girls found themselves involved with the Norwegian Resistance Movement of WWII, one a prisoner at the Grini concentration camp, missing the last boat to America that left Finland, and facing many dangers and hardships while their family in North Dakota faced the Depression, fear for their loved ones in Norway, and eventually leaving the prairie. Will this family ever reunite? I hope you enjoy reading me as much as the author enjoyed writing me. I’ll admit that it can be a sad story, and quite frankly my author cried when she wrote it. But thousands of people have resonated with the story and my author has spoken 37 times on this story including keynoting 3 conferences. I would love to hear from you after you finish reading me.
