About this listen
Don’t miss the first novel in a gripping series featuring DI Clare Mackay, perfect for fans of Alex Gray, D. S. Butler and Rachel Amphlett.
On the night of a wedding celebration, one guest meets a grisly end when he’s killed in a hit-and-run. A card bearing the number ‘five’ has been placed on the victim’s chest. DI Clare Mackay, who recently moved to join the St Andrews force, leads the investigation.
The following night another victim is struck down and a number ‘four’ card is at the scene. Clare and her team realise they’re against the clock to find a killer stalking the streets and bent on carrying out three more murders.
To prevent further deaths, the police have to uncover the link between the victims. But those involved have a lot more at stake than meets the eye. If Clare wants to solve the case, she must face her own past and discover the deepest secrets of the victims - and the killer.

I enjoyed this story and will listen to more. the end wasn't what I expected, which I always like. it may have been stretches a bit, but good.

Love the story and Marion Todd’s accent
Well written Murder investigation book. Loved the Scottish accent and DI Clare’s team who are very thorough. I didn’t see the twist at the end but very much disliked the brewer’s wife right from the start. Very satisfied with the end.

Pleasantly surprised.
This was a genuine "couldn't stop listening" experience for me. Such a delight to find a new "tartan noir" series I feel I can stick with. The author as narrator was really very good - I wasn't expecting that at all. The ending was a wee bit drawn out and rambling but I will certainly be buying more Marion Todd books.

Good entertaining Nobel
Good story with interesting plot. Interesting characters but the narration was weak and let the side down. Surprised to realise it was the author - stick to your lane is my suggestion

Good book, although would have appreciated a trigger warning!
I liked the writing style and narration, the story was good, balanced, and moved at a decent pace, however the book needs a trigger warning for abuse victims, avoid it if this applies to you in any way!

Pretty darn good
It was very sweet listening to the author narrate her own novel. And she did a pretty great job of it too. The production quality was lower than some, but not offensively so.
The story was well written with good character development of the female protagonist and believable dialogue.
Worth the read.

Who Are The Killers?
A great murder mystery set in Scotland. Someone is deliberately running over men and leaving a card counting down from 5. Why? Well written and narrated by the author.

Great plot and keeps you listening
Was a good storyline with some twists. Good character building.
Did not enjoy the narration as although articulate it was delivered with a strong accent that was hard on the ears. Wish the author would leave the narration to the experts.
Great book and worth a listen.

Good story
Enjoyed this book and will read the rest. The characters started to build making the series interesting. Great for the author to read. She knows where to emphasize.

Loved it.
Great story line and the horrible subject was well handled. It is also really nice to have the writer as the narrator. Helps the story to flow well
