NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE directed by Denis Villeneuve, starring Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, Léa Seydoux, Stellan Skarsgård, and Charlotte Rampling

Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Muad'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family—and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

A stunning blend of adventure and mysticism, environmentalism and politics, Dune won the first Nebula Award, shared the Hugo Award, and formed the basis of what is undoubtedly the grandest epic in science fiction. Frank Herbert's death in 1986 was a tragic loss, yet the astounding legacy of his visionary fiction will live forever.

it's not unabridged

wow I feel like an idiot. I thought that it was an unabridged reading. I wish there was a full copy of this book that I could listen to because I love the story.

Distracting shifting of performers

Half way through - but of all the shifting performances (an overall narrator that sometimes read with inflection of characters other times he doesn’t, and sometimes is swapped altogether sometimes not, with particular characters) the Baron takes me out of the book altogether. The altered voice by a different actor is interesting and then to be read by the narrator in a normal voice it’s distracting. Distracting to the point that sent me to write this review and wonder why would anyone do this? Why aren’t there any warnings on the write up to the audiobook? A small warning would really be helpful. I loved the book and the performances aren’t bad, but they are irregular and inconsistent. Considering to return the book, depending on how it feels at the end.

Not the best

The same characters played by different voice actors was ridiculous. Try and find another version if you can.

Duuuunnnnnnnneeeeeee

An amazing story but got lost in the different voice actors on the main characters at times. Having multiple people speak for one character gets a little fustrating.

All and all loved the book, will definitely listen to it again to have a more in-depth thoughts into it.

Great Story, Alright Listening

A cast of voice actors that occasionally aren't used.
The narrator takes back over but uses different intonations as well as obviously a different voice.
It's pretty off putting.

I personally struggled with the different voices and pronunciations from the old movie.

Epic Space Opera Book

There is a lot of world-building within the first few chapters. I love how we have a lot of time to get to know what is happening. Watching Paul grow into a man from being a pampered aristocrat was written brilliantly. It is probably best to describe this as a slow-burn book.

I can definitely see how this inspired George Lucas to write Star Wars. There are many similarities, but this is so grand. However, while I loved the book, there were many times I found myself quite confused by what was happening. I know right now that I will need to reread this book to understand it more. So many things make me want to keep reading the series to know what happens next and ties things up well.

Great book and a narration that’s worthy of it

This more than 50-year-old book is a beautiful piece of writing. The story comes alive with the voices of the artists narrating it. It keeps you on your toes till the very end. I wish I had discovered it earlier.

Wonderful telling with many great actors

So much talent in the reading of this. very enjoyable to get such a rich sense of the world from those who have taken the time to know it well enough to let us live it through their words.

A must read for sci-fi enthusiasts

The voices of various characters are changed awkwardly which is quite off-putting. Otherwise, enjoyed the story thoroughly and will continue the series
