About this listen

Sarah J. Maas' sexy, richly imagined series continues with the journey of Feyre's fiery sister, Nesta.

Nesta Archeron has always been prickly-proud, swift to anger, and slow to forgive. And ever since being forced into the Cauldron and becoming High Fae against her will, she's struggled to find a place for herself within the strange, deadly world she inhabits. Worse, she can't seem to move past the horrors of the war with Hybern and all she lost in it.

The one person who ignites her temper more than any other is Cassian, the battle-scarred warrior whose position in Rhysand and Feyre's Night Court keeps him constantly in Nesta's orbit. But her temper isn't the only thing Cassian ignites. The fire between them is undeniable and only burns hotter as they are forced into close quarters with each other.

Meanwhile, the treacherous human queens who returned to the Continent during the last war have forged a dangerous new alliance, threatening the fragile peace that has settled over the realms. And the key to halting them might very well rely on Cassian and Nesta facing their haunting pasts.

Against the sweeping backdrop of a world seared by war and plagued with uncertainty, Nesta and Cassian battle monsters from within and without as they search for acceptance - and healing - in each other's arms.

Redo with original narrator.

Original narrator preferred. Once invested in a series, it is really jarring to change the voice that has become familiar. The characters are no longer the same.

great book

I loved the story, but the narrators voice was so irritating, especially compared to the other narrators in this series.

Good book narrated well

Overall I enjoyed the story set in the ACOTAR world. I like that we get to see more from Nesta's point of view and I feel like I connect more to her than I did Feyre. Like Nesta's struggles are so much more grounded in an understandable place.

This is definitely an ADULT book. Like I've read the likes of Nalini Singh, J.R.Ward and other fantasy romance and the scenes go a bit further in some regards. They're graphic.

I switched between reading the kindle version and listening to the audio book as I worked. The narrator was pleasant to listen to and did some good voice work for different characters. Only a couple of times I got confused over who was saying what.

Finally see Nestas side

Loved the story, it did finish fairly quickly though. Nestas character development was well written. The narration was terrible though.

Great story, narrator not my favourite

I enjoyed this 5th installation of the series. Seeing Nesta's point of view as she grew out of severe depression was inspiring.
I just had an issue with the change of Narrator. The first 2 books were perfectly narrated. The change of narrator in book 3 was jarring for the first chapter, but she copied the voices for each character so perfectly that I barely noticed. But this one... Just not good. Her voices for other characters changed consistently, and we're so jarringly different from previous voices that the change was a bit much. Her 'sultry' voice was very distracting and her breathy voice for Feyre and basically every character except Nesta and Cassian was extremely off-putting.

But the story was good, and I enjoyed their love story, even if the sex was very intense haha

I should have just trusted my gut

I don't know why, but sometimes the deeper I dive into reviews on things the more my indecision grips me. I should have known better than to let the few lacklustre reviews of this book dissuade me from purchasing it. Honestly, at this point in time, I should just abide by the mantra "In Maas we trust" because like the others, this book was overall amazing.
Don't get me wrong, it wasn't as amazing as Cresent City, that book had me in literal tears at one point, but overall I really did enjoy Nesta's story a lot.
This book is long. 26 hours and 5 mins long if you take the audiobook route. But, for the most part, I enjoyed 25 hours and 30 mins of that so so much.
Nesta Nesta Nesta. Where do we start. After where we left of in the ACOTR series, I don't think Nesta had many fans. Perhaps there were those who just couldn't get past this and hence hated this book. I wasn't one of them. I came to really love Nesta and I turned on some of the characters that I once loved. How is that for a character progression.
There were many things I loved about this book. Nesta and Cassian *swoon* was a huge one, but I loved Nesta's friendship with Gwyn and Emerie so so much. This was the best thing to come out of this book.
What I really disliked was the ending. I really really really disliked that Nesta gave up what she did for her sister especially when they really were pretty crappy to her. And Rhys, like he really pissed me off in this book and I don't feel he deserved what Nesta did. She was his sister in law and he didn't treat her like family. Not in the way in mattered. He only cared about Nesta when she was able to do something no one else could and in the process give him something that he wanted and needed. I could go on and on about how much he pissed me off and the ending was just flat. Nesta deserved a better ending. More than the normal HEA. She had the potential to command greatness and I hate the idea of her just living a normal kind of life.
I hope this isn't it for the ACOTR series and the way it was left off, there certainly was the potential for more to come or for it to finish there.
I really would love to see Gwyn and Azreil together, maybe this could be the next story.

Butterflies the size of nervous chihuahuas.

From the very first opening words I was cringing at the new voice inside my head... I found the new audiobook actor quite hard to like, her voice and speach pattern vexed me to the point I almost didn't continue... The over exaggerated words confuddled me, also found the new tempo disagreeable, after I altered the words per minute and took a chill pill, I accepted that this book was to be from the view of a sardonic and prickly now self distrustive Nesta, not the ever soaring Feyra.
I confess I become deeper enthralled in the world of Sarah J. Maas once again. Such an elaborate world and grasp of this reality had me listening every chance I had.

Not many writers can capture that 'does he, doesn't he like me' witty edgy banter that occurs when two people both intrigue and vex each other... That 'he won't love me I'm too broken', this stirred many feelings I have had over the years... I admit, I had butterflies the size of nervous chihuahuas.

I think Nesta a terrible mess of neurosis self loathing lost in the belief that she is an unworthy, unwanted waste of a soul... Seeing her flourish by the end of this book fills me hope and longing for both her and Cassian to make beautiful glorious hot sweaty memories in every room they can find.

I love hearing the lives of the other supporting characters, I'm left wondering if Elaine & Lucian can induce the same butterflies you had me feeling... For this reason I highly anticipate, and eagerly await the next instalments.

Thank you <3
