The Keepers are a secretive tribe of little people who live at the heart of the Whispering Woods, caring for the countryside and rewilding it when humans (or Ruffins, as they call them) are careless with it.

The Keepers are a secretive tribe of little people who live in the middle of Whispering Woods, coming out at night to care for the countryside and rewild it when humans (or Ruffins as they know them) are careless with it. Young Keepers Cora and Jax have just finished school and are embarking on a trial, with several friends, to become fully-fledged Keepers. But their first venture out on their own ends in disaster when they become distracted with playing in the Ruffin children's playground instead of concentrating on the task they've been given.

Young Keepers Cora and Jax are trainees who need to prove themselves or risk being sent back to school. Intent on their task of building a hedgehog highway by making holes at the bottom of fences on a new housing estate, they come upon a deer trapped in the foundations of a building site. Their woodland magic isn't strong enough to help the deer escape, but they will not be able to complete their task if they try to get help for the deer.

The Keepers are secretive little people who live in the middle of Whispering Wood, caring for nature and rewilding it when humans (or Ruffins as they call them) are careless with it. Young Keepers Cora and Jax are looking forward to the Moonlight Party raft race - with their friend Trix's help, they have built a special raft. But at the same time they are beginning to wonder if they'll ever become fully trained Keepers, despite all their rewilding efforts.

On their very first venture into the Big Outside as fully trained Keepers, Cora and Jax come across a barn owl caught in a tree by a discarded fishing line . Determined to help free it, Jax climbs on to the owl's back to loosen the line but the owl takes to the air - with Jax on board. Will Cora ever see him again?
