War's Edge: Berserkers

In war, there is no second place. To ensure victory, planetary governments employ private armies to help fight their battles. And the Berserkers are the best. As the galaxy's preeminent mercenary force, they are hired by governments and corporations to do jobs that are too tough, too messy, or too deadly for their own forces. Expertly trained and equipped with the most advanced weaponry, they are willing to do whatever it takes to fulfill a contract - if the price is right.

Samuel Rutger was out of options and out of luck. Broke and jobless, he turned to the only option that could provide for his wife and sick daughter. He became a mercenary. When he joined Breacher’s Berserkers, the galaxy’s most elite private military force, he was initially designated as a logistics specialist. Far from the front lines, Rutger never thought war would reach him, but when he is reassigned as a gunner on a grav-tank he finds himself at the tip of the spear in a bloody planetary civil war.

Private Don Ekker joined the Berserkers expecting combat; that was what he wanted. But he got more than he bargained for. Escorting water shipments on the desert world of Wayward, he finds himself in a brutal and schizophrenic conflict, facing fanatical insurgents and bloodthirsty pirates, all with one thing in common: they want him dead. For Ekker, survival means quick reflexes, superior firepower, and horrific choices between life and death. Choices he must live with, if he doesn’t get wasted first.

Veteran Lieutenant Ralph Hague and his platoon have completed far more dangerous assignments fulfilling the Berserker’s contract with Biodyne Industries. When an army of radical cultists, the Immortals, arrive in search of Biodyne’s research on a life-extending drug, Hague and his troops are redirected into the heart of a war-torn planet to rescue Biodyne personnel and their data from a secret research facility called Outpost 16. There he witnesses horrors that shock him to his very core. Surrounded by hostile forces, he must choose between his duty and his conscience.

Released early from a triple-max military prison, Berserker Lieutenant Allison Rave is given a second chance at a mercenary career. Ordered to the remote, ice-covered world of Lucent-2, she is assigned as a grav-tank platoon commander in Task Force Metal, a crack unit tasked with quelling a bloody insurgency. As her isolated unit pushes further into hostile territory, Rave witnesses the depravity and madness of war. Fanatical enemies and unforgiving weather aren't her only concerns.

Desol… Most Berserkers have never heard of the tiny planetoid, a barren and inhospitable wasteland on the edge of the outer rim. The platoon of tankers stationed there wished they'd never seen the place. Hostile miners resent the Berserkers' presence, and the bored troopers have nothing to do but drink and fight. Corporal Jake Murray is one of the best gravtank commanders in the Berserkers, but he's also an undisciplined, unrepentant troublemaker. Banished to Desol for insubordination, Murray finds himself surrounded by a host of similar malcontents and burnouts.
