Idina Moorfield and Bravo Team are back for another mission. Illegal arms are moving through the Ural mountains. But things with Hellion have changed since Idina's team saved the world from monsters running the show for good, and someone else's secrets are getting in the way this time.

Emily Trigger is on a mission with her elite team. The Prodigal Suns are on the hunt for Heka, the ancient marauding god of magic. Someone helped Heka escape his long sleep in the Amazon jungles, and the old god wants to make up for lost time. First on his list was getting back some of his power. Next, gather even more power. Step number three: Rebuild his army of mindless, empty, zombies, and what better place to start than with a nearby village of innocent Amazonian locals?

Emily Trigger and the Prodigal Suns are following Heka's calling card. The trail of injured and dead bodies is a dark trail leading them to the ancient god of magic. Not before a whole lot of searching for Emily and her new unit. While the Prodigal Suns wait for new intel on Heka's whereabouts, Emily finds herself faced with a few new threats of her own, and her newly altered magic suddenly doesn't seem so accidental anymore. There's a rhyme and a reason to her electrifying new abilities-somewhere-and Emily needs to figure out what that is if she wants to stop having so many close calls.

The trail has turned cold, and the Prodigal Suns have to wait for a new sign of Heka to pop up and begin the chase again. When it does, it will lead them on a mission to the other side of the world. A few of Heka's zombie followers have popped up in Turkey and Emily Trigger and the rest of her unit are sent out on the trail. Or so they think.

There's a demigod on a quest for vengeance who is hunting Emily for her new magic. If Heka gets his way, her team will be nothing but collateral damage. The god of magic has eyes and ears everywhere, watching Emily. Heka's network of human prey form a secret undead surveillance system. And they could be literally anyone. Not good.

Heka, the ancient god of magic, has grand plans and thanks to Dr. Semenov, Heka knows exactly where to start. Black-market weapons manufacturers and dealers. And his plans aren't for the good of the world. Meanwhile, Emily Trigger and the Prodigal Suns are impatiently waiting for a spell to work so they can track down Heka. They're using the time to figure out the mechanics of Emily's new magic and how they can use it.
