When you learn by ear, you memorize as you go and you develop your ability to figure out other songs by ear. In this level two guitar by ear lesson, you will learn the rhythm and lead guitar parts to this progressive country instrumental without using music, tab, or video. The song is fully demonstrated at the beginning of the lesson and then you are taught all of the guitar parts completely “by ear”. This way you learn quickly and you memorize as you go. The lesson also includes three versions of the backing tracks for you to practice the different guitar parts with.

This level one lesson uses Elvis’s version of the song as the primary source of the acoustic and electric parts but also teaches an acoustic-only version based on the Tom Jones version with the walking bass lines. In the Elvis version, you will both the acoustic rhythm guitar part and the electric lead guitar part to the song. In this lesson, you will learn the guitar part to the live version of “Guilty” as it was performed by the Bee Gees. You will learn the guitar part in standard tuning as well as the open tuning that Barry Gibbs typically plays in. This way you can play the song without having to retune your guitar. The lesson starts with a full demonstration of the song and then teaches the entire song completely by ear. Backing tracks are included for you to play along with once you have learned the song. This is a level 1.5 lesson.

Duane Allman was the master of slide guitar and this solo clearly shows off his expertise. This is played and taught on a standard guitar with the strings raised up to typical slide-playing-height. The guitar is in open E tuning. The lesson starts with a full demonstration of the solo and then teaches the song (all five verses) phrase by phrase, completely “by ear”.
