After the sudden passing of her mother, Melaney Carter needed to travel hundreds of miles from her home to deal with her newly inherited property. The house needed major TLC after years of her mother's unfortunate hoarding, which led to years of neglect. Still, it was a trip she desperately needed to get away from her obsessed ex-boyfriend, and from her upcoming exams, she wasn't even a little ready to take.

There were only a few things worse than the end of the world, and to Mel, one of those things was being followed by her insane ex-boyfriend. With Elijah still hunting Mel, there wasn’t much she and her companions could do other than lock themselves away and wait. When Elijah sends Mel a message that he’s still out there, they know they need to act before things get worse. But it isn’t just him they need to worry about. The other survivors will stop at nothing to get what they need to live. Now, the situation must be handled once and for all before they end up losing their lives.

After barely escaping with their lives, Mel and her friends make it safely to the island. Unfortunately, important members of their group weren’t with them. And what was worse, they soon find out, safety is only an illusion. If survival was a game, Mel was losing. Faced with an unexpected obstacle, they must find a way to escape, only to willingly walk back into the lion’s den to rescue those that were left behind. As Mel’s inner demons cause her to spiral further out of control, she will need to find a strength she’s never even known she’s possessed.

With Sam back with the group, it was time to start the journey to find her daughter. Packed with as much as they could carry, the group heads out, knowing what they’re about to face won’t be easy. But it isn’t long before things get even worse than they could have imagined. The road is impossibly long, and danger lurks around every corner.

After the group learns of Dott’s location, they must once again strike out on the road, knowing the dangers that await. Death. Injury. Exhaustion. Debilitating fear…but somehow, Mel must dig deep and find the strength to keep her promise.
