A Jacobite Chronicles Story

The year is 1731, and in a small village in Cheshire, England, the Reverend Browne has determined the future of his young daughter, Sarah. Her life will be dedicated to caring for him and his household affairs while he, acting as one of God’s chosen few, saves souls from the devil. Sarah dreams of a different future, one in which she will be happy and independent. As she grows older, she starts to see glimpses of a tantalizing world beyond her reach and longs one day to escape the drudgery of her life.

Harriet Ashleigh, the much-loved eldest daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Darlington, knows exactly what she wants from life. Just one simple thing: the freedom to be herself. The Jacobite rising has failed. The Stuart king remains in exile in Italy, leaving Clan Gregor’s dreams of restoring their name and lands unattainable. In despair Alexander, chieftain of the Loch Lomond MacGregors, hopes that his young but gifted son Alex will one day restore the clan’s fortunes.

France 1734. Alex has only one wish to live with his clan in his beloved Scotland, and one day to lead them as chieftain. But recognising his abilities, his father has more ambitious plans for him, and sends him to study in Paris, hoping that one day he will be able to make the MacGregors legal again.
