Under an oppressive dictatorship, everyone in Gehenna is forced to work in the mines. Taken from their homes the day they turn six, they dig ore until they reach adulthood. This is the account of Chanse and Chelly, young twins who stumble upon a way out. Catapulted into the world above, they make for a rumored country beyond their borders. But, when the ruler, Dymorius, finds that two children have fled, he has his own reason for hunting them down before they can escape from Gehenna.

After discovering a mysterious stone pillar, Isaac, Zac, and Breezy find themselves fighting for their lives in a strange and perilous world, unaware of the disruption they bring. Hunted by the immortal Lord Sasson, the teens forsake all to pursue an ancient quest in hopes of returning home. Together with some misfit rebels and a giant lynx named Nusa, they battle over land and sea while learning who they are and the ultimate sacrifice they must make.
