When Jess first meets Josh at their Ivy League college she dislikes him immediately: an entitled guy in chinos, ready to take over the world. Jess bekommt einen begehrten Job bei Goldman Sachs in New York. Zu blöd, dass ihr dort ausgerechnet Josh über den Weg läuft, der ihr mit seinen reaktionären Ansichten schon in der Uni auf die Nerven gegangen ist. Doch er entwickelt sich bald zu ihrem engsten Verbündeten im Büro - und den kann sie als einzige Frau und einzige Schwarze dort gut gebrauchen. Aus den Kontrahenten werden Freunde - die dennoch beherzt weiterstreiten. Bis sich in die täglichen Grabenkämpfe der alles unnötig komplizierende Faktor namens Liebe einschleicht.
