In Tennessee he kills a slave owner who is trying to steal a horse from him while he slept. He takes the man's slave, sixteen year old Rachel and they travel to Oregon Territory in a Conestoga wagon on the Oregon trail. They befriend several people along the way and are among the first to settle in the Willamette Valley.

The Silver Dollar Kille has struck again. The hired killer, who marks his victims by placing a silver dollar under the victim's head, has killed another innocent rancher. Will Cannon hopes the outlaw gang doing the robbing and killing near silver strike town of Durango, Colorado are the Blackman Gang. The Blackman Gang killed Will's family in Virginia several years ago and when Will stood over the graves of his loved ones he swore an oath to find and kill Blackman and every member of his gang.

Adam and Abel Lee return from the Civil War to find their family murdered, their plantations stolen and the Union Army looking for them because they have been framed for the theft of the Yankee payroll in a train robbery. The Lee brothers soon find out the Blackman Gang is to blame for the crimes but the Blackman Gang flees the area and Adam and Abel fake their own deaths and start their journey west. Their goal is to establish a home base and begin the search for the Blackman Gang.

Ted Sweeney. Affable everyman in small-town Montana. Tailgate hung on with baling wire, owner of his own business.
