Many of my listeners are long-suffering daughters or sons of narcissistic mothers. They experience chronic complex PTSD for years after suffering abuse at the hands of their mother. Some people experience emotional abuse, while others also experience the physical side of the abuse from the narcissist in their lives. Most of them will agree that the words and actions of their mothers cut much deeper than the physical pain ever could.

Many of my readers and listeners email me. They may be in relationships with people who are diagnosed with OCPD, or they have been diagnosed with OCPD themselves. Some of them have parents, siblings, children, or friends with OCPD. Many people who know someone with OCPD want to know how to help the OCPD sufferer from doing some of his or her repetitive or negative behaviors. They may be bothered by the OCPD person's behaviors, or they want to help the OCPD person to live a more fulfilling life overall.

We have grown up with our fathers as the images of perfect husbands in our minds, even if our fathers were far from perfect husbands.

People never walk into a relationship assuming that they will be abused physically, emotionally, or mentally. The abuse also never starts immediately into the relationship at full force, as you would expect it to. Abusers often start out very subtly in a relationship with the different types of control, blame, and manipulation. They don't tell their partners that they intend to control them or ruin their lives in many ways.
