Sabrina and her crew are nearly through the Stillwater Nebula. But before they pass through into the open space beyond, they have to get through the Perry Strait. A stretch of space where no FTL is possible, with the Perry System at its center. There they learn that an old enemy has leapfrogged them and laid a trap. A trap they're going to have to spring if they want to get through to the other side.

Rika's demons have been put to rest, and she's been given command of a new company within the Marauders: a company composed entirely of mechs. Now it's time to deliver unprecedented levels of ass kicking to Nietzschean Empire.

With Serenity behind them, the crew of Sabrina now faces a vast nebula, rife with dark matter, stretching along the inner edge of the Perseus Arm. Though Misha knows of a hidden FTL route that can get a ship close enough to the city, using it assumes the city’s inhabitants are friendly.

After years of drifting aimlessly after the war with the Nietzscheans, Rita has finally found a home with the Marauders - a mercenary outfit comprised of Genevian veterans. When General Mill, CO of the Marauders, comes to Rika with a top-secret solo operation, she wants to turn it down. But the mission comes with a chance to save Silva, her old team leader from the Nietzschean war. Without team Basilisk, without the Marauders, Rika must stand on her own against all odds and save the woman who once saved her.

Rika is mech-meat, a cyborg killing machine, created by the Genevian military and cast aside when the war was lost. Now she slings cargo on Dekar Station, falling deeper in debt as she struggles to make enough money to keep her cybernetic body functioning. The local gangs would love to have her join their ranks, and the takings would pay her bills, but the only thing Rika hates more than what she's become, is killing for others. But morals don't buy repairs and she's at the point of utter desperation when her loan holder cashes in her debt and sells her to the highest bidder.

Everyone deserves a day off, right? That's just what Jessica and Cheeky are enjoying when a pair of old "friends" show up and force them to smuggle weapons into the Serenity System. On their own with just a small interstellar pinnace at their disposal, Jessica and Cheeky aren't going to let someone else force them to smuggle weapons (especially when there's no profit in it for them), and they take control of their ship and escape. Unfortunately, they still end up in the Serenity System...with the weapons.

The Gedri System is at war with Silstrand. As the Alliance reels, Scipio readies its forces, smelling blood in the water. Meanwhile, Kylie awakens aboard a warship captained by her brother. Sabrina has taken damage, Cheeky is in critical condition, and their supplies of antimatter and fusables are critically low. The only system in sight? Controlled by the Orion Guard - their enemy.

After nine long years of searching the Inner Stars, Jessica and the crew of Sabrina have finally found the president's brother, Finaeus Tomlinson. Now Finaeus has convinced them to take a shortcut through a jump gate - a new technology none of them have ever used before - located at a secret dwarf star mining operation. But a mysterious group within the Transcend Space Force, known as the Grey Division, has orders to intercept and capture both Jessica and Finaeus. Trapped at the bottom of a steep gravity well and surrounded by enemies, Jessica and the crew of Sabrina must find a way out of the Grey Wolf System and deliver the crucial information Finaeus carries back to New Canaan before even their allies are forced to turn against them.
