It is a story told many times in the century since the Great Martian Invasion - of a devastating and irresistible assault, of mankind in panicked flight, and of humanity's miraculous salvation. Thinking he has seen all he needs for his research, he decides to travel back home. Upon returning to where he left his time machine, he discovers an intelligent, violent group of people called the Morlocks have stolen it.

What does the future hold? The question is completely subjective to imagination, because no human will ever see what the future holds beyond their lifetime...or will they? The story begins with an inventor speaking to a group of men about the unbelievable time machine that he has built. The men scoff at this idea and do not believe his incredible tale. The inventor, wanting to prove his theory, produces a miniature time machine that disappears into thin air, to the amazement of all.

This was the novel that inspired the radio drama which sent the United States into a state of panic. In this work we revisit the roots of this classic in its original form.

Humble drapers' assistant Arthur unexpectedly inherits his grandfather’s fortune and is instantly propelled into a higher social strata with the subsequent problems of attaining the required behaviour of a ‘gentleman’.

Love and Mr Lewisham is a hugely uplifting tale from the pen of one of our greatest writers. Wells drew on his own experience as a young teacher to provide the background and, one suspects, the emotional drama. The plot enables him to satirise the educational establishment and deliver many wry observations on Victorian morality and the obsession with the supernatural.
