I et lille fredeligt hjørne, i Rigan, bor Cirino sammen med sin lillebror Fabius og deres mor. De to brødre ernærer sig som safirfiskere og er derfor langt væk hjemmefra, da Cirino bliver bortført og solgt som slave.
