Mathilda’s surprise birthday party for Kyra is thrown into chaos when Lily insists on helping and her magic causes some surprising transformations. In the Library, a dangerous magical creature gets loose and Apinya insists that the only way to stop it is for Kyra to use her Orb Magic. This brings Kyra a vision containing a clue to the location of the third Temple key.

The discovery of a time travel device allows Kyra and Darra to travel back in time to steal Magnus’ second journal, but they’re captured and Magnus learns that Kyra is a Triling like himself. Magnus tries to persuade Kyra to join his quest for the Purple Lotus and use it to benefit Trilings, but Imogen comes to the rescue. When they return to the Library, Ruksy demands to know what is going on.

Darra rescues Kyra then explains his quest to find the legendary Temple of the Purple Lotus. Kyra agrees to help Darra find the Three Keys to the Temple, and when they return to the warehouse the Cobra Statue offers the first Key to Kyra. Meanwhile, the Bureau continues to search for the magical graffiti artist and Imogen is intrigued by Tayla, the prickly new fairy waitress at the café.

Maxwell is unable to help Kyra understand her connection to the Temple keys so they seek Apinya’s help. Under Apinya’s guidance, Kyra has a vision of the Temple, the Cobra and the keys but things turn scary and Kyra decides to abandon Orb Magic. To improve her chances of a job with the DMI, Imogen wagers with Lily that she can acquire a fairy ability and Lily takes the bet to gain an elf skill.

Jealous of his friends’ magic, Peter borrows a tuxedo that gives him superspeed, and also releases a rogue diving suit that mistakes Peter for its enemy. Peter flees to school to find Kyra, but the suit follows, creating mayhem and endangering the magical secret until Kyra and Peter lure it back to the Library. Ruksy’s magic imprisons the suit, but Peter has broken Ruksy’s trust and she dumps him.

Kyra coaches the class for Magic School Sports Day in order to avoid a humiliating third defeat by their rivals, the Crowther School. Maxwell magically examines the two Temple keys which causes a chaotic magical disruption at the sports event, with Kyra at the centre. Kyra is blamed for the chaos but the disruption gives her a vision of the Temple of the Purple Lotus.

Darra rettet Kyra und erklärt seine Suche nach dem legendären Tempel des Lila Lotus. Kyra willigt ein, Darra dabei zu helfen die Drei Schlüssel zum Tempel zu finden und als sie zur Lagerhalle zurückkehren bietet die Kobra Statue Kyra den ersten Schlüssel an. In der Zwischenzeit ist der Club weiterhin auf der Suche nach dem magischen Graffiti Künstler und Imogen ist fasziniert von Tayla.

Als Kyra sich eine magische Erkältung einfängt, transportiert ihr Niesen Mathilda in die Bibliothek, wo Kyra dazu gezwungen ist, zuzugeben, dass Magie existiert. Als Mathilda versucht zu fliehen, löscht Ruksy ihre Erinnerung und Kyra muss so tun, als sei nichts passiert. Imogen verdächtigt Tayla der magische Graffiti Künstler zu sein und folgt ihr in ein geheimes Atelier.

Professor Maxwell erlaubt Tayla einen Tag in der magischen Schule zu verbringen, doch als Tayla einen magischen Spiegel zerbricht, kreiert sie einen böswilligen Doppelgänger, der darauf versessen ist, den Club zu zerstören, damit er nicht in den Spiegel zurückgeschickt wird. Peter schafft es, Kyra, die sich um ihren kranken Stiefvater kümmert, zu warnen und sie eilt zur Hilfe.

Ein altes Tagebuch, geschrieben von dem Tempel-Sucher des frühen 20ten Jahrhunderts, Magnus Sorenson, führt Kyra und Darra nach Thailand. Nachdem sie magische Hindernisse überwunden haben, finden Kyra und Darra noch eine Kobra Statue, die Kyra den Zweiten Schlüssel übermittelt.

Als Tayla in der Schule eine magische Puderdose verliert, wird sie von Kyras Freundin Mathilda gefunden und ihre Wünsche beginnen sich zu erfüllen. Mathilda hat den Verdacht, dass Magie existiert, also muss Kyra den Club dazu verpflichten, sie vom Gegenteil zu überzeugen. Da das Café davon bedroht ist, geschlossen zu werden, überredet Peter seinen Freund Ben Gitarre zu spielen und zu singen.

Trotz des Widerspruchs des Clubs, übernimmt Maxwell die Verantwortung für den Schaden an der Bibliothek und wird von seiner Lehrstelle suspendiert. Sein Ersatz ist Doktor Apinya, eine hoch angesehene, magische Archäologin, die sich besonders für Kyra interessiert.

Peter ist neidisch auf die Magie seiner Freunde, leiht sich einen Smoking, der ihm Super-Geschwindigkeit verleiht und befreit außerdem einen abtrünnigen Taucheranzug, der Peter fälschlicherweise für seinen Feind hält. Peter flieht in die Schule, wo er auf Kyra trifft, doch der Anzug folgt ihm, verursacht Chaos und gefährdet das magische Geheimnis.
