Die Abschiedsvorstellung des Sherlock Holmes (Original: His Last Bow) ist eine von Arthur Conan Doyle geschriebene Sammlung von acht Krimi-Kurzgeschichten um seinen berühmten Detektiv Sherlock Holmes und dessen Freund Dr. Watson, die 1917 in Großbritannien veröffentlicht wurde.

Der Rote Kreis (The Red Circle) erschien erstmals im April/Mai 1911 im Strand Magazine. 1917 wurde er mit sieben anderen Fällen in dem Sammelband Seine Abschiedsvorstellung veröffentlicht. Der Fall erschien in Deutschland auch unter den Titeln: Das Abenteuer mit dem Roten Kreis oder Ein Zimmer in Bloomsbury. Die Zimmerwirtin Mrs. Warren sucht Sherlock Holmes auf, weil ihr neuer Mieter sich äußerst seltsam benimmt. Er verlässt sein Zimmer nie und kommuniziert nur über handgeschriebene Zettel mit ihr.

Der zwangsverordnete Urlaub im tristen Cornwall nimmt für Sherlock Holmes und seinen Freund Dr. Watson eine unerwartete Wendung - Mortimer Tregennis bittet den Meisterdetektiv, die entsetzlichen Dinge aufzuklären, die sich ihm an jenem Morgen im Hause seiner Geschwister boten: Die beiden Brüder hatten über Nacht den Verstand und seine Schwester ihr Leben verloren. Und rätselhafterweise saßen alle drei noch genauso am Tisch, wie er sie am Vorabend verlassen hatte. Nichts deutete darauf hin, was sich in der vergangenen Nacht dort abgespielt haben könnte.

Der Detektiv auf dem Sterbebett (The Dying Detective) erschien erstmals im November 1913 im Collier's Weekly. 1917 wurde er mit sieben anderen Fällen in dem Sammelband Seine Abschiedsvorstellung veröffentlicht. Der entsetzte Dr. Watson erfährt von Holmes' Vermieterin, dass der Detektiv bereits seit drei Tagen schwer erkrankt im Bett liegt. Der Ermittler weigert sich jedoch, einen Arzt hinzuzuziehen. Da er sich sicher ist, an einer seltenen Tropenkrankheit zu leiden, schickt er Watson zu einem Plantagenbesitzer, der sich damit auskennen und Holmes' letzte Rettung sein soll.

Sherlock Holmes‘ Buch der Fälle (Original: The Case Book of Sherlock Holmes) ist eine von Arthur Conan Doyle geschriebene Sammlung von zwölf Krimi-Kurzgeschichten um seinen berühmten Detektiv Sherlock Holmes und dessen Freund Dr. Watson, die 1927 in Großbritannien veröffentlicht wurde. Das Buch der Fälle enthält die letzten zwölf Sherlock-Holmes-Erzählungen, die Doyle zwischen 1921 und 1927 schrieb. Zuvor hatte der Autor bereits in Seine Abschiedsvorstellung acht Detektivgeschichten zusammengefasst.

Holmes muss nicht selbst ermitteln, sondern sich die Geschichte von Mrs. Ronder anhören, wodurch er Klarheit über einen zurückliegenden, mysteriösen Todesfall erhält. Die Frau des Zirkus-Artisten Ronder liebte den Akrobaten Leonardo und wollte mit dessen Hilfe ihren gewalttätigen Gatten töten. Der Mord sollte wie ein Unfall mit Ronders Löwen aussehen. Nachdem Leonardo mit einer besonders präparierten, mit Stahlnägeln versehenen Bleikeule Ronder getötet hatte, öffnete Ronders Frau den Löwenkäfig.

Der Farbenhändler im Ruhestand ist eine der 56 Sherlock-Holmes-Erzählungen des britischen Schriftstellers Sir Arthur Conan Doyle und außerdem ist sie eine der 12 Geschichten aus dem gesammelten Zyklus Sherlock Holmes’ Buch der Fälle. - Sherlock Holmes ist von einem pensionierten Farbenhändler, Josiah Amberley aus Lewisham, engagiert worden, um im Fall des Verschwindens seiner Frau zu ermitteln. Sie hat ihn mit einem Nachbarn, Dr. Ernest Ray, und einer beträchtlichen Menge an Geld und Wertpapieren verlassen. Amberley fordert, dass Holmes die beiden aufspürt.

Der US-Amerikaner John Garrideb berichtet von einem seltsamen Erbe, das er bekommen könne, wenn er zwei weitere Männer mit seinem seltenen Nachnamen findet. Nathan Garrideb, einen alten Wissenschaftler, hat er bereits gefunden. Einige Tage später präsentiert er eine Anzeige mit dem Namen eines dritten Garrideb und schickt Nathan zu ihm. Doch Holmes hat John anhand sprachlicher Abweichungen zwischen britischem und amerikanischem Englisch als Killer Evans entlarvt und überwältigt den Verbrecher, als dieser eine Münzprägemaschine aus Nathans Haus zu stehlen versucht.

This novel is written by the author of, among other novels, the Stories of Sherlock Holmes. It is narrated by John Fothergill West, who tries to discover why the tenant of Cloomber Hall, General Heatherstone, is nervous to the point of being paranoid. Why are his fears becoming stronger every year at the fifth of October? And why doesn't he let his children leave home? This is a great mystery novel with a sharp twist at the end.
