"Die Nase" / Erzählung von Nikolai Wassiljewitsch Gogol. (1-6): Gogols Erzählung vermischt reale Alltäglichkeiten mit absurder Komik. Nichts scheint zunächst in dieser Geschichte zu stimmen, und doch stimmt alles: Der Barbier Iwan Jakowlewitsch findet beim Frühstück in seinem Brot eine Nase, die dem 37-jährigen Kollegienassessor Kowaljow gehört, den er immer mittwochs und sonntags rasiert. Voller Angst verpackt er die Nase in ein Papier und wirft sie von einer Brücke in die Newa. Entsprechend stellt jener Kowaljow beim Erwachen fest, dass ihm seine Nase fehlt.

La vasta opera letteraria di Barrili, composta da numerose novelle e una cinquantina di romanzi, spesso accomunata a quella di Victor Cherbuliez, inizia nel 1865 e ottiene presto largo consenso grazie allo stile scorrevole, alla sua padronanza della lingua e l'abilità nell'intreccio narrativo. Di Anton Giulio Barrili scrittore di romanzi, Benedetto Croce ha elogiato lo "stile limpido e scorrevole, senza stento, senza disuguaglianze e insieme accurato e corretto", aggiungendo che "il difetto radicale, epperò gravissimo, del Barrili è che egli non prende serio interesse".

In questo singolare romanzo storico scritto in prima persona, fino alle estreme conseguenze di fare in modo che l'autore diventi quasi personaggio della narrazione, Anton Giulio Barrili narra la vicenda del pittore Spinello Spinelli (detto Spinello Aretino). L'ascolto è agile e coinvolgente, la trama densa di colpi di scena. Un romanzo ingiustamente dimenticato che ritrova la sua peculiarità nell'edizione audiolibro.

Nonostante la sua ritrosia nei confronti della gente di paese, sarà proprio Galatea a riempire i capitoli del suo indimenticabile romanzo.
