En esta aventura, Sherlock Holmes y el Dr. Watson son visitados por Violet Hunter, una joven que ha recibido una oferta de empleo muy extraña. Un hombre llamado Rucastle le ha ofrecido un puesto de institutriz con un salario realmente bueno, pero ella sospecha de las condiciones de su empleo y del extraño comportamiento de su empleador.

En la historia que tiene lugar en 1890, un prestamista londinense llamado Wilson, un hombre con "cabellos muy rojos", visita a Holmes y Watson. Una bella y adinerada joven griega cae en las redes de un malvado desaprensivo, que raptará al hermano de la joven para lograr hacerse con el dinero de la familia.

Un joven ingeniero hidráulico de Londres, el Sr. Victor Hatherley, les relata los sucesos extraños de la noche anterior, primero al doctor Watson y luego a Sherlock Holmes en persona. Hatherley había sido visitado en su oficina por un hombre viejo y sospechoso que se identificó como el coronel Lysander Stark.

They intend to travel to Abousir at the southern frontier of Egypt, after which the Dervish country starts. They are attacked and abducted by a marauding band of Dervish warriors. The novel contains a strong defence of British Imperialism and in particular the Imperial project in North Africa. It also reveals the very great suspicion of Islam felt by many Europeans at the time.

A student of Egyptology who had fallen asleep in the Louvre Museum, is a witness to Sosra’s discovery of the elixir that would reunite him with Atma.

A Study in Scarlet was the very first Sherlock Holmes mystery, introducing Sir Arthur Conan's Doyle's iconic sleuth and his sidekick, Watson.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is of course famous for his creation of the great Sherlock Holmes. The stories of the master detective are justifiably well known but he also wrote many short stories which are not so well known but deserve to be. The four stories in this recording were first published singly in magazines, principally The Strand. They later appeared in the collection “The Great Keinplatz Experiment and Other Tales of Twilight and the Unseen” in 1919. They are: “The Brown Hand”, “Playing with Fire”, “How It Happened”, and “De Profundis”.

In "The Adventure of the Copper Beeches", Violet Hunter asks Sherlock Holmes whether she should accept a job with very strange conditions. She has been offered £120 per year as a governess, but only if she will cut her long hair short. This is only one of many peculiar conditions to which she must agree. The employer, Jephro Rucastle, seems pleasant enough, yet Miss Hunter obviously has her suspicions. After a fortnight, Miss Hunter beseeches Holmes to come and see her in Winchester, as the situation has become even stranger. This is the last of the 12 stories collected in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.
