Som ny lærer for de små klasser fandt han, at der var mangel på egnet læsemateriale til begynderlæsning, og det fik ham til selv at gå i gang med at skrive. Inspirationen henter han i sin egen barndom i 1950'erne, men også fra oplevelser med hans tre drenge danner grundlag for historierne.

Eventyret om Klods-Hans der ligesom sine brødre vil fri til prinsessen, men han må ikke få en hest som dem. Derfor rider han på sin ged og på vejen finder han en død krage og andre ting han vil forære prinsessen.
