Here is Linda Marshall’s BBC Radio 4 full-cast dramatisation of L Frank Baum's children's classic The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, originally broadcast as part of the BBC Christmas 2009 season.... When a tornado strikes her farmhouse in Kansas, young Dorothy and her dog, Toto, are lifted to the magical Land of Oz, the strange home of the Munchkins. Kiki uses the magic word, "pyrzqxgl", to transform himself and others into animals, including an exiled Nome, Ruggedo. Ruggedo and Kiki plan an invasion of Oz, changing people to animals and vice versa to get their way. It falls into the hands of the Wizard to start changing things back to normal, with Dorothy there to assist him.

Very much in the style of L. Frank Baum ( The Wizard of Oz), this story shows that Harry Potter was not the first remarkably popular world hit in junior literature. Mary Louise is a young girl, very honest and wise beyond her years. This, at times put her at odds with her classmates at school, but she is mature enough to not be bothered by their attitudes for the most part. Mary Louise lived with her mother and grandfather, with whom she was very close. She is upset and then astounded to find out that her grandfather is running from the law. As the other children at school find out the circumstances surrounding her situation, they begin to relentlessly tease and trouble her.

Young Jim finds unlimited opportunities for mischief when he accidently captures Father Time with his lasso. Like every 12-year-old worth his salt, Jim has a difficult time resisting the impulse to play pranks on his neighbors with the aid of his magical prisoner.

When the man who lives in the moon comes to visit the Earth, he has a surprisingly difficult time of things - all because of the fact that what's hot to him is cold to us and vice versa!
