Alexander Kuprin prefaced his novel The Pit about the lives of early 20th century Russian prostitutes as follows, "I know many people will find this novel amoral and inappropriate, but nevertheless I dedicated it from the bottom of my heart to mothers and young people" Indeed, the novel's publication was followed by an explosion of outrage. The "good" society accused Kuprin of slander and forever exiled him from its sitting rooms, charity auctions, and holiday balls. "Un mois à la campagne" est la pièce la plus célèbre d'Ivan Tourgueniev. Stanislavski en disait qu'elle "repose sur les méandres les plus subtils de l'expérience amoureuse". Cette comédie de mœurs met en scène la ravissante Natalia Petrovna, qui s'ennuie auprès de son mari ; son quotidien morose la mène à rêver d'une passion dévorante qui pourrait l'en sauver. L'amour naissant entre sa pupille Vera et un jeune étudiant sera le déclencheur d'une série de manipulations inconscientes nourries par la jalousie et les bouleversements amoureux.

Auferstehung ist der dritte Roman von Leo Tostoi. Er erschien im Jahr 1899. Inhalt: Ein adliger Gutsherr ist Geschworener bei Gericht. Er erkennt in einer angeklagten Prostituierten ein von ihm in der Osternacht, dem Fest der Auferstehung von Jesus, verführtes Mädchen wieder.
