New Borning: A Bronx Tale is an autobiographical poetic story and collaboration between international photojournalist Jana Hunterova and the author Emmitt H. Thrower. The book examines the activism and art of filmmaker/activist Emmitt Thrower and the developing Bronx during the years 2001-2018.

This is my story. After a lifetime of trying to help everyone else get their lives together, I have finally figured out how to get mine together. I am now 72 years old, semi-retired from a business I created to help young adults with autism function in the world. I live in Mexico with my loving partner. I have fulfilling relationships with my adult children and grandchildren.

In 2009 I lived in Highlands, North Carolina, before I became resolute to graduate or ever even started at Berea College. My internship with three other women, under the stewardship of a Unitarian nonprofit retreat center, was a time of questioning and growing more than any other time of my life. It also encouraged a raw, unique style of writing, influenced by the old-growth dwarf oak forest surrounding us and a certain Meditation Rock where we loved to sit and overlook the rolling mountain.

I am continuing with a genre of poetry that I created that I call schizoetry. It is a literary work fusing poetry with the thoughts, feelings, and perceptions of one who lives with a schizophrenic or schizoaffective disorder. I have been writing poetry since the age of 10. My poems go deep into my mind, emotions, and my spirit. They are very revealing to say the least. I wish to reach those living with this illness.

Strong Is My Middle Name is based on a true testimony on how life changed after the death of my mother. The braveness of every circumstance that God carried me through. Being strong was all I had left to endure what was ahead; and in due time, the glory of God would be revealed within me. With every mistake and disappointment, God restored me and filled the void I was missing in my life.

Schizoetry by definition means: a literary work fusing poetry with the mind of a schizophrenic. This is a genre that I created. All my work revolves around the life and times of a paranoid schizophrenic. My work is very educational and inspiring to those in the system of mental health as well as those outside of the system. It gives insight as to how we think, feel, perceive, and process information.

Armando Trinidad has been facing adversity his whole life, and what has he gotten from it? He's been able to be resilient and overcome it all with strength and optimism. This is a story of resilience, of power and overcoming the most difficult situations. When you think it can't get any worse, it can, and Mando teaches us that no one else but you can pull yourself out of that situation.

Twisted Rage is a compilation of thoughts coming from the mind of a man who lives with schizophrenia. It exhibits confusion between good and evil, right and wrong, and all other extremes. The confusion brings the listener down a path of empathy for the writer, sympathy for the writer, hope for the writer, and ultimately love for the writer.

Genius or Lunatic goes deeper into the mind of a paranoid schizophrenic. There is so much confusion in there. So much contradiction. So much religiosity. And there is much desire to know, understand, and find the truth. Along the ride you will find yourself saying, "But in this poem didn't he just say this"? It will bring out emotions that you won't expect. This brings you into his pain and lets you experience it firsthand.

See? is an inspirational autobiography that describes how God's grace and the firm, loving support from family, friends, neighbors, an exceptional teacher, and caring supervisors guided the author through life's challenges. It also debunks common myths of blindness and discusses adaptive equipment used by the author on her journey.

The majority of the time, I am the only one in the room, or shall I say, “on the shelf”? So many humans walk right past me, playing blind games by pretending not to see that the struggle is real. Talk about the lack of accessibility.

Steph Hammerman has been motivating herself and others her entire life. Since defying the odds by surviving as a one-pound, fifteen-ounce baby and weeks later being diagnosed with cerebral palsy, to beating Hodgkin's lymphoma stage 3B cancer in 2016, Steph has been a living example of overcoming seemingly insurmountable objects in order to achieve the impossible.

Poetic Madman showcases and celebrates the creativity and the ability to express my innermost thoughts, ideas, emotions, philosophies, and raw experiences that come with having paranoid schizophrenic disorder. Poetic Madman is sure to open the minds of those who don't understand mental illness and hopefully help to dispel some of the stigmas. The purpose is to give the listener a different take on what they understand to be true about the illness. You may even identify with some of the experiences expressed throughout this work of art.

2020 was a hard year for everyone. In this journal, learn how one woman experienced the pandemic while also having to deal with the effects of having bipolar disorder. From the book: "Truth is best expressed as silence. Words are our creations. They come and go, live and die. They are incapable of expressing what is real. This has been a journal of a false identity assuming itself to be real. From this new vantage point, I see how I am creating this story. Today I start a new chapter. Or maybe it is just a page. Even if I could just cobble together a sentence. Make it meaningful!"
