On the day Stockholm police officer Hanna Ahlander’s personal and professional lives crash, she takes refuge at her sister’s lodge in the Swedish ski resort paradise of Åre. But it’s a brief comfort. The entire village is shaken by the sudden vanishing of a local teenage girl. Hanna can’t help but investigate, and while searching for the missing person, she lands a job with the local police department. With the summer season on Sandhamn comes an unsettling mystery for Detective Inspector Thomas Andreasson. A bullied young boy has vanished from a sailing camp on neighboring Lökholmen Island. Has the terrorized eleven-year-old run away? Or, in this isolated vacation spot where strangers lurk, is it something more ominous?

The new summer house on Sandhamn Island is an architectural dream for its owner, Carsten Jonsson. It’s a nightmare for the locals. The venture capitalist has flouted local traditions, property lines, and the natural beauty of the coastline. He’s also too wealthy and arrogant to heed the anonymous warnings to leave. The threats escalate when his guest lodge is burned to the ground and an unidentifiable corpse is found in the charred ruins.

The body of world-famous journalist Jeanette Thiels is discovered the day after Christmas, frozen in a snow-covered garden just steps from her hotel on Sandhamn Island. Detective Thomas Andreasson finds it highly unlikely that it was some bizarre accident. After all, the relentless war-zone correspondent was no stranger to conflict and controversy - both professional and, of late, very personal. Who would want to see her dead is another story.

A woman’s skeletal remains are excavated on an uninhabited island in Sandhamn’s archipelago, and Thomas Andreasson is called to officially investigate. But his best friend, Nora Linde, can’t help but get involved. On leave after her last case took a dark turn, Nora is tortured by depression, nightmares, and guilt. Her marriage fractured, her pride chipped away, Nora could find redemption in this investigation.

It’s Midsummer’s Eve, the celebration of the longest day of the year, and on Sandhamn it’s the longest party of the year. But the fun comes to a dead halt when a young reveler is murdered, a teenage girl is found drugged and dazed on the beach, and other young women vanish. So far, what links the victims is a mystery. For Nora Linde and her new boyfriend, Jonas Sköld, the crimes are personal: one of the missing girls is Wilma, Jonas’s daughter. And her disappearance could test Nora and Jonas’s relationship in ways they never expected.

Es ist kurz vor Weihnachten, als Hanna Ahlander, 34, von ihrem Chef dazu gedrängt wird, den Dienst bei der Stockholmer Polizei zu quittieren. Als wäre das nicht genug, verlässt sie auch ihr Freund. Das Ferienhaus ihrer Schwester in Åre, dem ältesten Alpingebiet Schwedens, kommt da gerade recht. Während Hanna noch ihre Wunden leckt, erreicht sie die Meldung über eine junge Frau, die nach einer Party spurlos verschwunden ist. Eine Suchaktion wird gestartet, bei minus 20 Grad zählt jede Minute.

Es sind Ferien und in Åre herrscht Hochsaison. Das edelste Designhotel im Ort, die Copperhill Mountain Lodge, ist komplett ausgebucht. Doch dann findet das Personal eine Frau, die in der schönsten Suite des Hotels brutal erstochen wurde. Charlotte Wretlind wurde die Kehle durchgeschnitten, das Bett ist klebrig von Blut. Panik breitet sich in der Gegend aus, Daniel Lindskog und seine Kollegin Hanna Ahlander übernehmen sofort den Fall.

Winterferien in Åre. In der besinnlichsten Zeit des Jahres wird außerhalb des Dorfes eine Männerleiche gefunden. Das Opfer wurde schwer misshandelt. Doch der Mord gibt Rätsel auf: Das Opfer hatte scheinbar keine Feinde. Als in einem der umliegenden Dörfer die Frau eines freikirchlichen Pastors verschwindet, geraten Hanna Ahlander und Daniel Lindskog unter Druck. Die Gesuchte ist hochschwanger. Und sie braucht Medikamente.

Una fuerte tormenta de viento y nieve asola las calles vacías de la isla de Sandhamn. Nora Linde está celebrando la Navidad con sus hijos y su exmarido, Henrik, mientras que su amigo el inspector Thomas Andreasson pasa las fiestas con su familia en una isla cercana. Entretanto, una mujer asustada toma el último barco hacia Sandhamn. Al día siguiente encuentran su cadáver cerca del hotel Seglar. Andreis Kova est un homme puissant. Enfant réfugié de la guerre de Bosnie, il est devenu baron de la drogue à Stockholm. À défaut de pouvoir le faire tomber pour trafics de stupéfiants, la justice tente de le coincer pour fraude fiscale. Mais Kova peut s'offrir les meilleurs avocats : il sait qu'il s'en sortira, une fois de plus. Une femme fait pourtant le pari contraire : la procureure Nora Linde. Pour l'atteindre, elle compte sur la jeune épouse du trafiquant, Mina, en fuite après avoir été battue par son mari. C'est un témoin clé qui pourrait faire basculer le procès.

La Saint-Jean approche. A Lökholmen, une petite île en face de Sandhamn, une soixantaine d'enfants est rassemblée pour un camp de voile. Faute de surveillance, certains jeux dégénèrent en harcèlement. Et lorsqu'un enfant disparaît, la panique s'empare du camp. Accident ? Kidnapping ? Ou... un jeu qui aurait mal tourné ? Dépêché sur les lieux, l'inspecteur Thomas Andreasson et ses collègues explorent toutes les pistes.

Nora Linde, désormais en poste à l'Agence de Lutte contre la Criminalité Financière, profite de ses vacances à Sandhamn avec son compagnon Jonas et leur fille de quatre ans Julia. Mais l'idylle estivale est vite troublée par l'arrivée de Carsten Larsson, un requin de la finance engagé dans des affaires troubles en Russie. Larsson a acheté la belle et grande plage au sud de l'île, et la villa de luxe qu'il y a fait bâtir éveille les rancœurs des insulaires.
