Before the invasion of Earth. Now, Edriss 562 lives in Eva's head and controls her every movement. The Yeerks are finally starting to realize that the "Andalite bandits" are probably not aliens at all. That maybe they've been dealing with humans all along. And no one -- especially the newly appointed Visser One -- is happy about this revelation. When Tobias and the other Animorphs realize that the Yeerks are about to find them, it's by accident. But that doesn't make the discovery any less serious. Because in a war, one side wins and one side loses...

Dak Hamee is a unique Hork-Bajir. His people call him a seer. He learns more quickly and completely than the rest of his docile race. Hork-Bajir like him are born once a generation. Aldrea is a young Andalite. Daughter of the notorious Prince Seerow. It is only after she and her family are sent to the Hork-Bajirhome world that she begins to fight the Yeerks—and, with Dak's help, ultimately discovers their hideous plan. Esplin 9466 is the Yeerk that will become the feared Visser Three. He has set out to defeat the Hork-Bajir, and begin the building of the Yeerk Empire.

Visser One is constructing an enormous new Yeerk pool in an effort to feed the Yeerk reinforcements landing on Earth every day. The visser is blasting giant holes in the ground, obliterating whatever buildings, land, and people happen to get in his way. The subtle invasion is over. And the human population is now aware of the awful reality happening on their planet. Jake and the other Animorphs want to seize the pool ship and stop Visser One from constructing the new feeding ground. It would be a huge conquest—possibly the end of the war. But they can't do it alone.

Jake seems to have grown up overnight–literally. When he went to asleep he was his usual kid-self, and when he woke up, about ten years had flown by! What's worse, the Yeerk invasion of Earth has succeeded. The newly-adult Jake searches for Ax and the other Animorphs to find a way out of the horrific future–but he soon learns they won't be much help. They've all been killed or infested.

It was bad when Jake found out his brother was one of them. A Human-Controller. A slave. But that was nothing compared to this. When the Animorphs decide to visit the Yeerks' new base, it seems simple. But then they get caught, and Jake falls - just for a moment - into the Yeerk pool. Now they're out, and his friends can't see it. To them, he's just like normal. But Jake is screaming for help. His worst fear has finally come true. He's become the enemy.

Marco and the other Animorphs have managed to find out where the Yeerks are planning to build their next ground-based Kandrona. That's a good thing. But the location is supposed to be somewhere near the North Pole. That's a bad thing. The Animorphs know that the Yeerks are a "cold-blooded" species, but this is a little nuts! Who wants to be near the North Pole without Arctic morphs - and wearing spandex?

David, the traitorous Animorph, is back. When the Animorphs decided to give another human being the power to morph, it was one of their biggest mistakes. David tried to destroy them all -- and almost succeeded. Rachel and the others thought they'd seen the last of him when they trapped David as a nothlit, leaving him on a deserted island to live out his days as a rat...They were wrong.

Something is very wrong with Ax. He's sick, and the Animorphs don't know what to do about it. They can't take him to the hospital. They don't know how to contact the Andalite home world. And Ax is dying. Cassie and the other Animorphs come up with a plan. But it involves finding a new way into the Yeerk pool. There's just one problem: Jake, Rachel, Tobias, and Marco all come down with Ax's sickness. And now, for the first time, Cassie is on her own.

There is an Anti-morphing ray out there. It's purpose: to cause a person in morph to revert to his natural form. And the Yeerks have done a very good job in hiding it. Word from the Chee that the Yeerks are ready to test the weapon. Just one problem: They don't have a test subject. Yes, they could have Visser Three go into morph and them hit him with the ray. But Yeerk scientists say there's a definite chance that the ray will prove fatal. The Visser isn't volunteering.

Two of the free Hork-Bajir living on Earth have brought the Animorphs and Ax a terrifying discovery: Visser Three has tried—unsuccessfully—to create a race of amphibious Hork-Bajir. It seems Visser Three has become fixated on the sunken Pemalite ship he glimpsed and lost (book #27). So, he has arranged the construction of a fabulous new underwater Yeerk craft he calls "SeaBlade," that will be able to locate the Pemalite ship along with it's advance technology.

What would have happened if the Animorphs had never existed? If Jake and the others had taken the long way home from the mall that night, instead of cutting through the abandoned construction site? If they'd never met Elfangor. Never rescued Ax. Never heard of the Yeerks.... Jake's finally weakened. After one particularly grisly battle, the Drode hits him when he's down and offers the Animorphs' leader an escape from the terrifying pressure. He'll take Jake back to the mall and reverse the decision that started the Animorphs. It's an offer Jake's too tired to refuse.
