I wish to urge all Christians, especially ministers of the gospel, to give The Spirit-Filled Life a prayerful reading. I feel confident it will bring them help and blessing. It will deepen the conviction of the great need and absolute duty of being filled with the Spirit. It will point out the hindrances and open up the way. It will stir up faith and hope. And I trust it will bring many people to feel that it is at the footstool of the throne - in the absolute surrender of a new consecration - that the blessing is to be received from God himself.

Wisdom, encouragement, and exhortation is contained here. Not because of the author's brilliance, but because of the words of truth contained in the gospel of John. And just as the Apostle John didn't draw any attention to himself, so also J. C. Ryle clearly and wonderfully directs his words and our thoughts toward the inspired words of scripture. If we truly love God, we will love his word; and the more we study his word, the more we will love God.

For us to have favor with God, obedience is of utmost importance. "To obey is better than sacrifice" (1 Samuel 15:22). This is evident from the very beginning of the Bible to the very end: "Blessed are they that do His commandments, that they may have a right to the tree of life" (Revelation 22:14).
