Faith Daniels leaves a successful Silicon Valley career to follow her life's dream: In Cedar Grove she builds a foster home for unwanted and abused dogs. She knows dogs have the ability to love even after being abandoned. Abandoned by her fiancé and friends, Faith wishes she could learn to love and trust again.

Nine years ago Ellie's now ex-boyfriend was the finance manager of her publishing house. He drained all her bank accounts and disappeared. Since that time she has not made any effort to pursue a new relationship or even date. Her life revolves around her growing business and a small group of women friends who are all single, about the same age, have no kids, and are driven to succeed in their careers.

A small town can be a friendly place to call home and an impossible place to find a date. A shop owner starts a singles-mingle but only has three attendees - not a single man in sight. The women continue to meet, and change their name to The Love List. Each write names of single men and drop them into a basket. The Love List seems a success as each of the women finds their true love, except Laura. She is certain the basket is cursed.
