In this episode of Pitch Perfect the Podcast, we discuss: The counties with the most World Cups and The tournament's greatest-ever players.

Segment 1: Countries with the most World Cups

According to a statista.com graph, there have only been 8 countries to ever win a World Cup

    1. Brazil, 5
    2. Germany, 4
    3. Italy, 4
    4. Argentia, 3
    5. Uruguay, 2
    6. France, 2
    7. Spain, 1
    8. England, 1

    • Brazil has had some great players and teams, including Pele, Ronaldinho, OG Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, Kaka, Cafu, and there is just an endless list of others, but recently they haven’t been able to get over the hump, even though they have been considered by many to be the most talented team in most of the recent world cups.
    • Germany has had success all throughout the history of the World Cup, winning 4 of them, each about 20 years apart from the 50’s to that legendary 2014 tournament,
    • Italy had a lot of success very early, winning the second and third ever tournament, they also won in 82 and 2006. They’re a country known for their strong and solid defense
    • Argentina has obviously just won the Qatar World Cup, winning Messi the most undeserved Ballon d’or ever, but thats besides the point. Argentina also won 2 earlier world cups, with Maradona being on both teams.
    • Uruguay won the first ever World Cup, which they also hosted in 1930. They won their second 20 years later, and have never won a World Cup since
    • France has obviously been very successful as of late, winning the World Cup in 2018 and being the finalist in the Qatar World Cup, it was a great final. They also won the tournament when they hosted in 1998 with a great team led by Zidane and henry
    • Spain won their only World Cup in 2010 led by a Barcelona midfield of Xavi, inestia, Busquets
    • England won their only World Cup when they hosted back in 1966. They have been to 2 semifinals but couldn’t get it done in their golden generation in the 90’s

    Segment 2: Best performers

According to bbc.com, some pundits created a list of the top 10 World Cup players ever

    1. Gary Lineker
    2. 10 goals in 12 appearances, quarter and semi finalists
