"We've got a great financing partner that has amazing terms - % for 18 months with no minimum monthly payment required. If we lived in the earth, like in the earth, not on the earth, it would be a lot easier to control the temperature in our home. We wouldn't even need H VAC systems. We would just be perfect. However, that's not the way we live. Uh We live above ground, which is great. We have windows in our home. So I wanna talk about windows today on the program. So I asked my friend Lyndol Woodruff to join me here from Woodruff Windows. How you doing, buddy? Wonderful. How about yourself? Live in the dream. My friend live in the dream. Hey, a question has come in here to the studio and this question has come up over the years and I think it's a fair question about windows when people get their windows replaced, let's say it's a decent size home and there's 30 windows, which that happens all the time. 30 windows is a, is a rough number. Do they have to replace all the windows at once or can it be done in stages? Maybe just do the front or the back, well, from an efficiency standpoint to get the maximum benefits. Absolutely all at once, for sure. Yeah, because to get, you know? Yeah, because you don't want it to be efficient on one side and not the other. Also, if you're gonna get a home improvement done, we do it all at once. So, if you're gonna get your kitchen done, you don't get half the kitchen done. Like the old countertops on that side of the kitchen, but we'll put new countertops here. Oh, the fridge is on this side. So we'll get a new fridge, but we'll leave the stove, which is on the other side. No, do it all at once. It, it just makes more sense to get everything done because when you're out there doing the work and I know you guys are very conscientious and you do a great job. You really don't want the crew to come back out again. Right? Because it's a little inconvenient to have your windows replaced. It's definitely more cost effective for sure to do it all at the same time. You know, I mean, windows is an investment naturally. Some people want to know. Well, I want, I need to split it up up for cost sake. We've got a great financing partner that has amazing terms as far as, you know, 0% for 18 months with no minimum monthly payment required. So I have some people, they'll finance it and they won't even pay a payment for 10 months. As long as it's paid off within 18 months, you have no interest. So some people get a few more bonuses at work before they even make a payment. You know. So why not use somebody else's money to get it done now? Because that's gonna be the maximum benefit to your home. You're, you're gonna see a great drop in your bills immediately. That's the great thing about windows. You don't have to wait for the R O I, you know, the moment you get them all switched out, it already starts performing. So, um I highly recommend and of course, it's more cost effective to do it all at the same time because we're not making multiple trips and, you know, it's one pickup from the factory and we come and bring all the windows to the property and stay until it's done, you know. So we price in it a little bit different from one shot as opposed to phases. So, yeah. No, absolutely. It just makes a whole lot of sense. Um And you're right, the, the, um, the R O I is gonna happen real quick. Uh It doesn't matter if it's summer or winter, the air conditioning and heating system is gonna feel it immediately. And also it's not just saving money on the actual energy cost, it's going to allow your H VAC system to last longer because it's not running as hard and you're gonna be more comfortable. So on those really, really hot days that we get here in Texas, it's not gonna be as hot anymore. Regardless of how hard your air conditioning system works. If you have substandard windows, you're gonna be miserable. I had a lady put a Google Review the other day. That was astounded because her laundry room used to be smoldering. It was always in the direct beam of sunlight and her Google review literally said it was so strange to stand in my laundry room and be in a direct beam of sun and feel no temperature change. That's incredible. I mean, that's, yeah...

  • How Often Do I Need To Replace My Windows?
    Apr 1 2024
"So that U V coating or that low E coating that's in between the panes of glass is just mind boggling how amazing it works and how thick those glass panes are and all of the argon gas that's in between those panes of glass to not allow heat and cold to penetrate through the glass." - Lyndol Woodruff, Window Expert Today on the program, Jim Klauck, aka Check A Pro Joe asks window expert, Lyndol Woodruff from Woodruff Windows - How Often Do I Need To Replace My Windows? Podcast Episode Transcript: A lot of us don't think a lot about windows in our home, but it's critical, especially if you live in an area like D F W. Um, it's hot in the summer, cool and sometimes cold in the winter time. And windows can be a huge breach in the winter. That cold air wants to infiltrate and unfortunately in the summer, that warmer air wants to come in and it is harder for your H VAC system in both seasons to keep up. So a lot of people think I just need a new air conditioning system. I need more insulation. Um You may want to consider new windows. So I've asked Lyndol Woodruff to join me here from Woodruff Windows. Hey, Lyndol, how are you doing? What's up? Awesome, Joe, how are you, buddy? I'm living a dream. Thank you so much for asking for pro Joe. Good to be here, man. Thanks for coming on the program. And so a question has come up and that is how often does the average homeowner have to replace windows? Well, if you do it right. Um and you get a good quality window with a good quality install, you don't ever have to do it again. That's the cool part about it. The goal really, it, it kind of starts happening about the 15 year old mark. Once the home hits about 15 years, there's been quite a bit of settling going on and breathing in that foundation. And if you have those, if you have a, a brick, we'll just say a brick home, for example. And you have those regular metal framed builder grade windows with just regular clear glass. Probably you got grids, the little tick tech tow bars in the glass because that was the thing will never, you know, they were built if that's your situation. Um Those windows are really causing a lot of problems in your home. And so we can, we can talk about those details later. But really when you get that old window out and you get a good energy efficient window in vinyl frame is good enough for Texas. Uh there's other options for frames, but because of our region and the way the weather is here, um vinyl is a great choice and it's a much lower on the price point scale than some of the other windows. So really, you just need a good vinyl frame, energy efficient window. And uh the one that we use the glass is the absolute best, the the seal in the glass unit is the absolute best. So you're not gonna have to worry about ever messing with your windows. Again, once you do it right the first time and you'll just get all the benefits for years and years to come of uh you know, comfort and energy savings and extra longevity on your whole H VAC system. There's just so many things. So one and done Joe one and done. Is it fair to say that we've come a long way with technology? It wasn't, but the late 90s, maybe even early two thousands single pane windows were still being installed by builders. Now, you can get up to a triple pain window. You can get all kinds of gas in there. That, that's better than the old gas. But if you had a single pain, there was no gas seals weren't as good. So we've gotten to a point, I think, and I think this is true of automobiles and airplanes, a lot of things that we do get better, but not at the same rate. Mhm. So the, yeah, the, the science and the technology behind the insulated glass units these days is, is pretty mind boggling. Um, not all insulated glass units are created equal guys. There's, there's, uh, one, the one that manufactures, the one that we use in the windows, uh, cardinal insulated glass unit hands down the very best that there is. And the science that goes into developing the, the low e the low emissivity coating that's between the glass that blocks out all the U V rays. So, if you think about it in uh in terms of, you know, sunglasses, cheap sunglasses or polarized ray bands, right? You know, cheap sunglasses, lets in all the U V rays harmful for your retina, polarize blocks it all out, same kind of concept for your home. So that blocks out all those harmful U V rays which you know, penetrating into the home fades, furniture fades, artwork, it fades carpet, it fades, flooring, it fades the walls, all that stuff because those U V rays are harmful. So that U V coating or that low E coating that's in between the pans of glass is just mind boggling how amazing it works and how thick those...
