Wintry Blast Hits MN: 570+ Crashes, 2 Fatalities

  • DEADLY+WINTRY WEDNESDAY: Our mid-week was book-ended by accumulating snowfall in many areas of Minnesota, with hundreds of traffic crashes snarling roadways. The conditions led to widespread travel disruptions and worsening conditions through the day, with MnDOT crews working overtime, deploying plows and trucks to help keep roadways clear.

    By around 9 p.m. Wednesday, there had been more than 570 crashes reported statewide, with over 45 involving injuries and 500 resulting in property damage. Spinouts and jack-knifed semis added to the mayhem, with over 60 vehicles spinning out and nearly 25 semis blocking roadways. Tragically, two of the crashes resulted in fatalities.
