  • 24. Cannabis, Curiosity, and Connection with Penny Barthel
    Sep 17 2024

In this episode I invited Penny Barthel, author of 'The Cannabis Gardener,' to discuss her journey from traditional gardening to becoming a prominent figure in the cannabis education field. Penny shares insights about her evolving perceptions of cannabis, driven by personal experiences and scientific curiosity. We explore how societal norms and personal biases influence our views on cannabis and the importance of following one's curiosity, especially in midlife. Penny candidly discusses the challenges and joys of reinventing oneself, the impact of cannabis on health, and the significance of remaining open to new experiences and knowledge. The conversation celebrates the courage to embrace unconventional paths and the importance of lifelong learning.

Penny Barthel is author of The Cannabis Gardener, Co-Founder of cannabis education company Wondering About Weed, home gardener, certified cannabis horticulturist, and recipe developer. She lives what she teaches and her writing and garden pursuits flow directly from her education and lived experience. Cannabis sativa has captivated Penny's attention in all its stages from seed to tasty young herb to sparkly mature bud. Penny believes that cannabis belongs in the garden, bringing wonders of health and joy to those who get to know this remarkable plant. Penny has been featured in the LA Times, Grow Magazine, KitchenToke, MJ, Sunset Magazine, Growing Weed in the Garden, as a trial grower for The Humboldt Seed Company, in several podcasts, and in numerous public speaking engagements from Berkeley to Harlem. Penny resides in the San Francisco Bay Area with her family and as many plants as will fit in her small city garden.

  • 23. The Power of Friendship with Josh Flosi, Matt Richards, and Knox Hughes
    Sep 10 2024

In this episode, I dive into the depths of friendship with my guests Josh Flosi, Matt Richards, and Knox Hughes.

Through sharing nostalgic memories and amusing anecdotes, the trio explores how their childhood friendships have evolved and strengthened over the years. Despite not always staying in touch, their bond has endured thanks to an unspoken understanding and mutual respect.

The conversation touches on the differences and similarities between male and female friendships, the role of technology in maintaining connections, and the impact of genuine friendship on personal growth and character development.

This heartfelt and humorous dialogue ultimately serves as a testament to the resilience and beauty of lifelong friendships.

Josh Flosi is a 50 year old dude who was 5’7” in 6th grade and has probably shrunk an inch or two in the last few decades. He dreams of the days when he could dunk over his friends Matt and Knox on the 7 foot hoops at the local elementary school. He is a former High School English teacher and is currently a special education coordinator at an international school in Tanzania.

Matt Richards is a partner at a third-quartile AmLaw 100 firm, the husband to one of America’s great podcasting voices (which makes him an unrepentant beneficiary of nepotism), and the third-funniest person you’ll ever meet.

Knox Hughes is the group’s Mr. October. Mostly because he’s the only Scorpio of the three not to have been born in November! A married proud father of two, he’s a Reality TV Editor who loves what he does and an Angeleno that will always be a Bay Area kid at heart - Go Niners!
