  • At 28 years old, Ala was living with his family in Aden, Yemen, when he was forced to flee—for his safety and for the chance to build a new life.

    Yemen, located at the southern tip of the Arabian Peninsula, is bordered by Saudi Arabia, Oman, and has been described as a breathtaking coastline along the Arabian and Red Seas. Yet, since 2014, Yemen has been devastated by conflict.

    Nine years of war has resulted in a major humanitarian crisis. Over 4 million Yemenis are internally displaced, 17 million face food insecurity, and millions - especially women and children - suffer from malnutrition.

    This is Ala's story.
