  • THE VALUE OF FORGIVENESS
    Oct 31 2024

Almost every day of our lives, we meet with some kind of bad experience, great or small, which is inescapable. One has two options: either to ignore it or try to take some counter measure. The first option is a form of forgiveness, while the other amounts to seeking revenge. Which is the better option? We must decide by looking at the outcome, for that will be the determining factor.

Forgiveness is certainly the better option, for it is based on a proven formula for saving yourself from even worse experiences. For example, forgiveness saves you from unworthy distractions, saves your precious time, saves you from creating even more problems. It is an instant solution to any problem. On the contrary, taking revenge is bound to complicate the problem, for that means making everything go from bad to worse. Where forgiveness can buy time, taking revenge just wastes time without there being any benefit.

  • FORGETTING THE DIFFERENCES
    Oct 28 2024

When Mikhail Gorbachev came to power in 1985 in the USSR, he began to reorganize the structure of the communist party in order to bring in people of his own persuasion. Gorbachev was particularly afraid of the imposing personality of Boris Yeltsin, a member of the Politburo. However, the latter finally resigned in 1987 from the top party post after a row with Gorbachev and other Politburo colleagues.

It was against this backdrop that, when Yeltsin stood for the presidentship of Russia in 1989, Gorbachev opposed him by proposing another candidate for the post. However, despite his opposition, Yeltsin won the elections, becoming the president of Russia.

Encouraged by the differences between the two leaders, the extremist group in the Russian communist party revolted against Gorbachev, managing to overthrow the government at the Kremlin on August 19, 1991. They believed that they could put an end to Gorbachev by exploiting the differences between the two leaders. But the very reverse happened as subsequent events showed. Yeltsin, having put aside all his differences with Gorbachev, exercised all his power and all his capabilities to organise the public against the coup leaders, putting even his own life at grave danger. Under his leadership, the Russian public gathered in such huge numbers in Moscow that the coup leaders were forced to flee. Gorbachev was brought back from Crimea and reinstated as President. It is generally recognised that the credit for Gorbachev remaining alive and returning to the office of president again goes to Yeltsin.

The greatest mark of a lofty nature is the ability to set aside the grievances and differences in order to support another, whereas a man of baser metal would do the very opposite.

  • THE CONCEPT OF A BETTER TOMORROW
    Oct 28 2024

The concept of a better tomorrow is ingrained in human nature. Every day man witnesses the fact that day follows night. And will always follow night. The same is true of life. In human life there is no full-stop. There are only commas until it reaches the final destination.

The concept of tomorrow is only relevant for human beings, not for animals. Humans always think by taking the future into consideration. No setback can take away this tomorrow-oriented concept. It is because of this concept that the struggles of human life are never given up as being futile. Just as the night cannot prevent the day from following it, no untoward circumstances can ever deprive man of the hope of a better tomorrow.

This tomorrow-based concept begins from individual life, covers national struggle, then goes on to the global hope of building a civilization. It is this continuity of hope which is man’s most distinctive feature.

It is generally held that death puts a stop to this continuity. But, the reason to believe in the eternal continuity of life is: if this process continues up to death, then why not after death? Death only comes to the physical dimension of the human personality. The other dimension, that is, the mind, is an eternal phenomenon. It is quite certain that the mind-based personality continues to exist even after the apparent death of the physical aspect of human life.

  • Religion and Science
    Oct 25 2024

This is a collection of excerpts from a book by Maulana Wahiduddin Khan entitled Religion and Science. The excerpts explore the relationship between religion and science. The author argues that while the two fields of study may appear to be at odds, they are in fact complementary. He contends that religion is not incompatible with science, but rather that scientific inquiry actually reinforces the truths of religion. The book uses various arguments and historical examples to demonstrate that even scientific observations and discoveries that might seemingly contradict religious beliefs can be interpreted in a way that supports religious truths. https://cpsglobal.org/books/religion-and-science

  • GOOD IN EVERY SITUATION
    Oct 21 2024

This excerpt from the CPS Global website, "GOOD IN EVERY SITUATION," by Maulana Wahiduddin Khan, discusses the importance of adjusting to one another in marriage and finding something good even in what seems bad. It draws upon a Quranic verse to emphasize that a happy family life does not depend on finding a partner of one's exact choice, but rather on the ability to see the good in difficult situations and adjust to one another. The author argues that happiness is a state of mind and that individuals are responsible for their own happiness, rather than relying on others to provide it. https://cpsglobal.org/articles/good-in-every-situation
