  • Summary

  • Can you remember back to a time in your youth perhaps when you waited for something good to happen, something that you knew beyond a shadow of a doubt was going to really happen? When the anticipation of expectancy overwhelmed your senses and caused you to think of nothing else as you looked forward to something or someone coming into your life? Maybe it was something you had long hoped for; maybe it was a person you loved so dear and hadn’t seen for many years. Well, that is what Advent is all about. Now, Julia Ward Howe lived during the dark days of the Civil War. She was an amazing Christian woman by all accounts, and yet except for the stirring hymn she wrote, “The Battle Hymn of the Republic,” she is little remembered today. Julia knew what Advent was all about however, and she knew her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ quite well, I think, for her song is indeed her ongoing witness and testimony of her faith in God. She wrote, “Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord.” Let’s talk about Christmastime in the context of this Advent season, shall we?
