    In this episode, the entire team gets together for the first time (in the same room) for Episode 100. We take a look back at 2021 and reflect on the incredible and at times challenging year that it was for sport. This year we have been incredibly fortunate to be joined by guests from all walks of life within the sports industry and across many different organisations including; Football Australia, the AFL, Sport Australia, the Australian Olympic Committee, Basketball Australia, Netball Australia, Athletics Australia, alongside a heap of other Australian professional clubs.

    In this episode, we speak with Taryn Kirby, the current General Manager of Marketing Communications and Media at the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2022. Taryn has spent her career working across the marketing and communications space, with experience from Jump Media & Marketing, the London 2012 Olympics, AVANT Communications and GreenEDGE Cycling based across Europe.

    We explore how her passion for marketing and communications was discovered, her experience of working overseas, the challenges and requirements of working for an international event, and how she believes the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup for 2022 will impact of the presence of basketball in Australia.

    In today’s guest episode, we have the pleasure of speaking with Peter Filopolous. Peter has had a major impact on the Australian Sporting Landscape across the past 20-25 years, with several senior roles and CEO positions across multiple sports such as football (soccer), AFL and swimming.

    Peter has gone from strength to strength throughout his career, being the CEO across major football organisations such as South Melbourne FC, Perth Glory, Football Victoria, and currently at Football Australia as the Head of Marketing, Communications and Corporate Affairs.

    We learn about Peter’s wealth of experiences and insights both from a general perspective, but also in football. We speak about the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup and the legacy aspirations Football Australia has for this, and also some of the long-term goals Football Australia has in terms of developing the sport.

    In this episode, we chat with CEO of AusCycling, Marne Fechner. Marne speaks with us about her somewhat unconventional path to becoming the CEO of two major national sporting organisations. Marne, a Deakin University diploma graduate, spent time interstate in Queensland for her first full-time job before making her way back to Victoria.

    Marne has spent her time as the CEO of the Netball World Cup in 2015, Netball Australia, and currently AusCycling. During the podcast, she speaks about her time at these organisations and the legacies she wanted to leave in her wake. She also touches on her different roles and her passion for people and culture within organisations.

    In this episode, we speak with CEO of Commonwealth Games Australia, Craig Phillips. Craig joins us with a wealth of experience which began with a Diploma of Teaching before quickly transitioning into the elite side of the sports industry. Craig spent just under 24 years at the Australian Olympic Committee in multiple positions before finding himself in his current role as the CEO of Commonwealth Games Australia. 

    We ask Craig about the joint document that the AOC and CGA put to the Federal Government - Sport: Powering Australia’s Future (10+10), as well as what it has been like to work through many Olympic and Commonwealth Games. Additionally, we touch on Craig's thoughts surrounding legacy and how important an Olympics or Commonwealth Games are outside of just the event days.

    In this episode, we continue our 'Sport Student Series' where we have discussions with recent graduates and current students. Today we are joined by quite a unique sports student who has had some very different experiences. We hear from Chris Dellas who currently works as an International Technical Official at Tennis Australia which involves him traveling for tennis tournaments domestically and internationally. Chris also completed a Social Media and Marketing Internship at the Sandringham Football Club as part of his Bachelor of Sports Management degree.

    We chat through Chris’ path through university, his incredible experiences as an International Technical Official, and his future aspirations and thoughts on how to navigate the sports industry as an up-and-coming student.

    In today’s guest episode, we have the pleasure of speaking with David Stevenson. Dave has a CV to behold, having achieved so much at home in Australia but also abroad. Dave spent a very respectable 17 years working for none other than Nike, working his way up from an Assistant Store Manager in NikeTown Melbourne, to the VP and GM of Sales in Emerging Markets working in Portland, USA.

    We also chat about all things AFL which has been a huge part of his life for the past 6 years. Dave is the former CEO of the Western Bulldogs and now GM of Operations in the AFL. We hear how he and his team have managed the difficulty of back to back covid impacted seasons where he has led successful projects such as the 2020 and 2021 GF, Return to Crowds, and Return to Play.

    We also touch on his involvement at the Western Bulldogs during their 2016 Premiership Year.
