If we’re honest with ourselves, sometimes we wonder what the point is in praying for people across the world – people we’ll never meet, who will never know we are praying for them. We can find it even harder to pray for global situations, especially some of the huge challenges facing the Middle East – it feels overwhelming, and our prayers can seem small and insignificant.

But when we turn to God’s word, we find plenty of reasons to pray. Here, we’ve narrowed it down to seven great reasons to pray for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) – not just out of obligation, but as part of our discipleship, worship and Christlike love. And, as we’ll discover, praying for others can change things in the world, but it can also bring about change in our own hearts in the process – filling us with more love and joy, and strengthening our own faith too.

This month, we are praising God for answered prayer. Back in September, many of you joined SAT-7 and other Christian organisations in a global day of prayer for peace in the Holy Land. In answer to these prayers, it is hugely encouraging to see a ceasefire agreement on the table, and the return of hostages and those who were imprisoned. As well as continuing to pray for the Holy Land at this crucial time, please lift up Sudan, where peace remains elusive.

Dear God,

1. We thank you for hearing our prayers for the Holy Land, and ask that the ceasefire agreement will bring about true peace.
2. We pray urgently for our brothers and sisters in Sudan, that you will protect them and bring an end to the bitter conflict they are suffering through.
3. We thank you for the medium of satellite television, and the way it has enabled SAT-7 to continue reaching Afghan believers despite an internet blackout.
4. We give thanks for SAT-7 KIDS programme In His Image, and pray that young viewers will become rooted in the Bible.
5. We celebrate all the new believers who have come to know you through SAT-7, and pray you will protect Idriss in Algeria and draw him even closer to you.
6. We pray for David as he starts his new role, and for him and the Church Engagement team as they make plans for 2026.
7. We lift up all our Advent plans, and pray that those using SAT-7’s resources will be “overwhelmed with joy” as they learn about the Middle East and reflect on Jesus’ birth.
