What does losing Temporary Protected Status mean for Haitian families who have built their lives in Florida? In this episode, Pierre of the Florida Immigrant Coalition joins us to discuss what losing TPS would mean for Haitian families and workers who keep Florida running, and the broader impact on Florida's economy and communities. We examine what's at stake, what lawmakers can do, and how grassroots organizing can push for lasting protections. We also hear what Haitian families need to know about their rights and how FLIC can serve them.

In this episode, Ira interviews Jason Scott, an organizer with the Dump Duke campaign in St. Pete, which is fighting to stop the city from renewing its decades-long contract with Duke Energy, an investor-owned utility notorious for poor service and some of the highest electric rates in Florida.

Instead, the campaign is pushing for public power: a city-run utility owned by the community and operated to serve the people who rely on it, not shareholders. Public power puts local voices closer to the decisions being made, keeps our energy infrastructure accountable to the community, and allows revenue to be reinvested right here where we live.

A better energy future already exists. Now, we have an opportunity to fight for it in St. Pete.
