    Grammy Winning Conductor Gil Rose is here. We talk all sorts of things in this fun and deep chat! Hailed by The New York Times as “one of the nation’s most intriguing opera companies,” Odyssey Opera, in partnership with the Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP), presents a rare Boston showing of the Gershwin brothers’ two political musicals at New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall, Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 7:30 p.m. With scores by George Gershwin, libretti by Ira Gershwin, and books by George S. Kaufman and Morrie Ryskind, the stories of Of Thee I Sing (1931) and Let ‘Em Eat Cake (1933) are both centered on American politics: the former being a politically correct Pulitzer Prize-winning musical; the latter, a politically incorrect flop. Reimagined as a live concert experience, conductor Gil Rose leads a formidable ensemble of established singers including Heather Buck, Aaron Engebreth, Neal Ferreira, and more, accompanied by the Odyssey Opera chorus and the acclaimed BMOP orchestra.When it was first performed on Broadway, Of Thee I Sing was a hit with over 440 performances. It won the Pulitzer Prize in 1932 in Drama, the first musical to win that prestigious award. The Prize Committee said: “Of Thee I Sing is not only coherent and well-knit enough to class as a play, but it is a biting and true satire on American politics and the public attitude towards them.” About Gil Rose Gil Rose is one of today’s most trailblazing conductors, praised as “amazingly versatile” (The Boston Globe) with “a sense of style and sophistication” (Opera News).     The Rocky Horror Picture Show, the longest-running theatrical release in film history, will be celebrating its 49th anniversary and embarking on three national tours stopping in over 50 cities beginning, Saturday, September 28th through October 31st, 2024. This year, original cast members, Barry Bostwick, the iconic Brad Majors, Nell Campbell the effervescent Columbia and Patricia Quinn, the incomparable Magenta, who have thrilled generations of fans will be touring the US and Canada simultaneously. Audiences in each city will have an opportunity to meet a star from the movie, view the traveling museum which includes artifacts and costumes from the film; participate in a costume contest judged by one of these stars and engage in a performance with the local Shadow Cast who will be performing scenes from the movie ‘live’ while the full un-edited film is shown. The Rocky Horror Picture Show is the iconic little movie that conquered Hollywood. The hit movie stars Tim Curry as the devious and fabulous Frank-N-Furter, Meatloaf, Barry Bostwick and Susan Sarandon as everybody's favorite nerdy couple – Brad and Janet, Patricia Quinn as Magenta – and the film's creator Richard O'Brien as Riff Raff. The film has become one of the longest showing movies in the world. Limited VIP tickets are available and include a meet and greet with Bostwick and Quinn.     ​Meghan Finn is the Artistic Director of The Tank. She previously served as the Associate Artistic Director at 3LD Art & Technology Center. Her directorial work has been seen at the Tank, the V&A, Powerhouse Theater, Serpentine Galleries, The Wexner Center, Powerhouse Theater, SCAD, The Logan Center for the Arts in Chicago, Museo Jumex Mexico City, The Power Plant, Clubbed Thumb, HERE, The Brick, The Bushwick Starr, Soho Gallery, PS122, Dixon Place, Soho Rep, Ars Nova, Montclair State, New Georges, The Flea, Canadian Stage, Carnegie Mellon, Brooklyn College, MIT, NYU, the Great Plains Theater Conference and others. Under her leadership, The Tank has established itself in a two theater complex on 36th Street, tripling its artistic programming and annual revenue since FY17. In 2020, The Tank was awarded an OBIE AWARD for institutional excellence, under Finn's leadership as Artistic Director. She is also the recipient of a 2021 Lucille Lortel Visionary Award by the League of Professional Theatre Women and 2023 PRELUDE Festival Award.     Kafkaesque!, a world premiere musical comedy featuring book, music and lyrics by James Harvey (Prime Day, The Bald Faced Truth, The Crack in the Ceiling) and directed by Ashley Brooke Monroe (Hamilton national tour, Life of Pi; The New Group: All of Me). James Harvey has earned a following in experimental theatre with his irreverent takes on cultural moments. He’s lampooned everything from Amazon to TikTok, to Furries, earning recognition from the Edinburgh and U.S. Fringe Festivals, the New York Musical Theatre Festival, and the New York International Fringe Festival, where his play The Crack in the Ceiling received the award for Best Musical. Harvey backs up his sardonic wit with bona fide musical talent, and has accompanied and music directed for Alan Cumming, Bowen Yang, and Larry Owens, amongst others. Franz Kafka may never have intended for his name to become an adjective, but nevertheless, Kafkaesque! celebrates his body of work by layering predicaments from his stories onto one contemporary American family. The result is horrifying bodily transformations, artistic eating disorders, and cancel culture run amok, all under the dark umbrella and relentless grind of late-stage capitalism.
