How does a product manager on an infrastructure or platform team make an impact?
This will likely be a topic we keep revisiting, but I felt I should ship some initial thoughts right away.
To answer this question, we need to work backwards from this question: is there a benefit from a successful internal developer platform to begin with?
If it is, we should understanding what those benefits are.
Then ask, what are valuable skills needed to deliver it?
A way to answer the skills is to start to get into context and use-cases where a product manager versus the individual teams addresses it.
This should set the stage for the areas of impact and the skills necessary for success.
