• Masculinity & The Impact Of Covid-19
    Mar 7 2021

The Covid 19 pandemic has built a chasm between us and gender quality. Instances of domestic violence are rising, women's unpaid care is on the rise, and women have lost more jobs as compared to men. This made us pessimistic.

But on the occasion of International Women's Day, in celebration of all the advancement of the feminist movement, we had an optimistic conversation with Mr. Eric Falt, Representative South Asia at UNESCO. Eric's organization has become one of world's largest custodians of gender equality. Our conversation on masculinity and the impact of the pandemic, UNESCO's work in response, and global successes around equality gave us hope.

Here's our special episode, in collaboration, with UNESCO New Delhi.

To all women out there, HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY!

  • Masculinity & Sexual Harassment At Workplaces
    Feb 6 2021

Sexual harassment at work places is a grave concern. Places that are meant to make us feel safe and secure, sometimes become the breeding ground of harassing and discriminatory behavior. And this behavior usually flows from a power of position, mostly occupied by men, towards people in less powerful women, primarily women.

Our guest on this episode is Asiya Shervani, who is part of multiple POSH Committees and is an advisor on sexual harassment prevention.

Ashwin and Prateek take a look at what sexual harassment at work place means, how is it defined by law, what recourse is available through PoSH Committees to people who’ve faced such harassment and what can progressive enlightened leaders do to ensure that their organizations are free of sexual harassment. And what can we, as men, do to check our own behavior, as well as that of our other male colleagues and friends, and how do we become better allies.

  • Masculinity & Parenting
    Sep 4 2020

For centuries, women were queens of the home while men were the kings of work. Philosophers, religions, and everyone in between told us so. But the world is changing. Many more women are stepping outside of this age old wisdom. But as men, are we responding to this change? As more women work outside of home, are we contributing more inside of it? Data suggests that we are but incredibly slowly. Among rich and relatively equal countries, men have only increased their effort at home by 7 extra minutes in the last 15 years. And in India, women contribute 8 times more to work at home than men do. Indian men are some of least equal partners when it comes to 'splitting the list'.

And then there is Shailesh Vaite, a 'work-from-home' dad who is proud to say that he has not missed a single important moment in his children's lives. Shailesh was around for their birth, their first steps, their first words and many more important moments. Shailesh's wife and him have agreed that he will 'split the list' and this has given his wife a full career at work, his kids two full-time parents, and Shailesh himself, some of his most meaningful and joyous moments.

In this episode on "Masculinity & Parenting", we explore the journey of a father, husband, and man, who with his wife decided that traditional gender roles at home were not for him.

  • Masculinity & Dating
    Aug 10 2020

Dating is a beautiful experience. Some people date only one person, and find that special someone for life, some go through the process multiple times. A lot of people, especially women, have experienced a rather dark side of dating - one that reeks of patriarchy and toxic masculinity.

Our guest, clinical psychologist Puruvi Baraya, has worked for an offline dating company. She shares her observations of behavioural patterns of men that were deep-rooted in toxic masculinity and patriarchy. She also shares tips on how men can become cognizant of such behaviours and change it for the better.

And based on our chat with Puruvi, we make some much needed entries in The New Manifesto, at the end of the episode.
