LIFE AFTER HOCKEY PODCAST - EPISODE 7 - CHRIS CEDERSTRAND Born in Martensville, Saskatchewan, Chris Cederstrand was drafted by the Red Deer Rebels & played 2 seasons in the WHL with the Rebels before being traded to the Swift Current Broncos. His junior career ended after concussion problems & his focus then shifted away from hockey towards becoming a Firefighter. Chris completed Fire School at the top of his class & while interviewing for different Firefighting positions he took a road construction job. At 25, he was involved in a work accident that resulted in the amputation of his right leg. After much commitment & rehabilitation he started to become more active again - he started skating, playing golf, paracyling, snowboarding & even wake surfing. In 2011 Chris started playing sledge hockey with the Calgary Scorpions & within months of playing for the Scorpions, he was picked up by Team Canada's development program. In 2014 he joined the Men’s National Sledge Hockey Team & competed for Canada at the 2014 Sochi Olympics. He has also won a silver medal with Team Canada at the 2015 World Championships. He also returned to his work as a firefighter & became the First above knee amputee Firefighter in North America, as well as the first above knee amputee Firefighter to compete in the Fire Fit Challenge. Retired from international competition Chris has created the Cederstand Foundation. Supporting individuals with physical limitations to reintegrate back into sport and physical activity. He is currently a public speaker & Sledge Hockey coach.
