    Today on the show we have an action packed episode, to celebrate the last show of the series. Crossy and Tara are covering The Leaving Cert French exam with The Institute's Corinne Gavenda.  Corinne has been teaching at the Institute for 30 years and is a native French speaker and conducts her classes completely through French.


    Dr Colman Noctor is also going to be joining the guys one last time, as he goes over the best ways to overcome a disappointment, and spoiler alert... Every student is bound to have a couple of them over the next few weeks, so do not beat yourself up if you happen to have an off day during the exams.

    We were contacted by Ali one of our listeners asking for an episode on how best to prepare for the Home Economics exam. The test is taking place on the first day of this years Leaving Cert after English Paper 1, so because time is of the essence we thought we would treat you to a special bonus episode.


    Crossy and Tara were joined in studio by one of the country's most expert Home Economics teachers. Sandra Cleary has been teaching in The Institute of Education since 1991. She also spent two years teaching in the Dublin College of Catering and was assistant to Mairín Uí Chomáin in the R.T.E. cookery series "Cuisine le Mairín". She has contributed articles in the print media since 1993. Sandra is the author of the recently published Leaving Certificate revision book, Rapid Revision Home Economics, part of the Rapid Revision series by Folens.

    Each Monday and Wednesday, Tara and Crossy have been speaking some of Ireland’s best teachers who’ve  been giving us some of their vital tips and tricks that will help you with your exams this June.  If this is your first time listening in, make sure to check out all of our previous episodes where we have covered English, Maths, History, Irish Geography and much more.


    On today’s podcast, the guys are dedicating the whole show to Maths paper 2, both higher and ordinary level. First off, they will be speaking to Aidan Roantree about the honours exam. Aidan is  senior Maths teacher at the Institute, where he has been teaching Maths and Applied Maths for over 30 years. He is also  the author of 14 books, including the most recent Effective Maths Books 1 & 2, and knows the honours Maths syllabus as well as anyone else in the country.


    Jean Kelly is also back again to cover the ordinary level paper 2. Jean has been teaching Leaving Cert Ordinary Level Maths to students of all abilities at The Institute for over 10 years, and is incredibly effective at getting the most out of her students when it comes to results.

    On todays episode Crossy and Tara will be doing a deep dive into Irish paper 2 with Claire Grealy From The Institute. Clare has over 25 years experience teaching Irish to Higher Level Leaving Cert students and has been teaching full time at the Institute for the past 14 years. Clare has assisted in researching the Irish language and has helped in the translation of a number of texts into Irish, so she is the perfect woman to advise you on how to ace the Irish Aural exam.

    On today’s episode of The Leaving Cert Survival Guide, Tara and Crossy will be looking at Geography with Michael Doran from The Institute. Michael is the author of the recently published ‘Geography Extra!’, an exam focused handbook designed to help students achieve top marks in The Leaving Cert Higher Level Geography exam. Michael has been teaching at the institute since 1995, and is one of the countries most experienced geography teachers and examiners.


    They also spoke to Irish International Runner and Director Of Sport At The Institute Of Education Brian Gregan about the importance of setting goals to help you achieve success inside and outside of school. Brian is gearing up to compete in the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, and talked a lot about how a solid routine and good preparation can give you the competitive edge in all walks of life.

The beginning of the exams are only a few weeks away, with Paper 2 starting on Thursday the 6th of June at 2pm. Jim is an award winning playwright, and has written books on the leaving cert syllabus so his valuable advice and guidance on where to focus your attention, is certain to bring a few extra points your way this June.


    Nicola Halloran aka The Wonky Spatula will also join the guys to talk about what drinks and foods you should stay away from around exam time, but also why you shouldn’t beat yourself up too much  if you find yourself reaching towards the crisps or chocolate.

  • Maths Paper 1 & How To Manage Unrealistic Expectations

    On episode 4 of The Leaving Cert Survival Guide, Crossy and Tara will be looking at Maths Paper One, both Higher and Ordinary Level with Louise Boylan and Jean Kelly from the Institute of Education. The pair have over 30 years of teaching experience between them and are considered as two of the countries best maths teachers. Louise has literally written the book on second-level Maths in Ireland, having co-authored 15 books to date, including the best-selling “Less Stress More Success” series of revision guides.


    The guys were also visited once more by Dr Colman Noctor from St Pat's Mental Health Services, who talked a lot of sense about how best to manage your expectations in the run up to the exams, and what to do if you feel others are putting too much pressure you to succeed this June . Colman was able to give such practical advice in the interview, which part two of a three part series on managing your mental health during The Leaving Cert 2019.
